Meet the Galownia Family!

"Anchorage is very peaceful."

The Galownia family has been a part of the Anchorage community for nearly five years.
David and his wife of 10 years, Leiah, along with their four children, keep busy with school, work, and fun family traditions. Benjamin (18) and Lilly (13) attend Phoenix School of Discovery, Beatrix (7) is at Hite Elementary, and their youngest, Nico, is currently in daycare.

Originally, Leiah grew up in Lexington and Louisville, while her husband was born in Cincinnati but has called Louisville home for the last 25 years. Together, they’ve built a family full of personality—and pets! They share their home with two cats, Zora (named after the “Father of the Corvette”) and Whitney, as well as a Christmas-present turtle named Santos.

The couple first met through speed dating nearly 15 years ago, where a playful “5 minutes to impress me” joke and a shared dislike of bowling sparked an instant connection. David, a graduate of the University of Louisville with a degree in Computer Information Systems, runs Slingshot (yslingshot.com), a tech consulting firm, while Leiah is a dedicated stay-at-home mom. Their children stay busy with a variety of activities. Benjamin and Lilly are the official news announcers at their school. Benjamin also works at UPS, enjoys playing video games, and is writing a novel, while Lilly is passionate about acting. The younger ones love the outdoors, with Beatrix always singing and dancing, and Nico happily creating “good-hearted chaos.

The Galownias cherish their family traditions, from gathering for meals three times a week and giving "shout-outs" to each other—sharing something positive about everyone that day—to watching The Polar Express with hot chocolate every Christmas Eve. Thanksgiving at David's aunt’s house comes with a unique tradition for the adults—a shot of Wild Turkey accompanied by gobbling sounds! The 4th of July is a big celebration with Leiah’s family in Northern Indiana, complete with farm animals, swimming, and fireworks.

Food is another passion in their home. They keep it simple on weekdays with pasta nights, soups, and roasted chicken but go all out on weekends, with delicious seafood and grilled steaks. When it comes to vacations, they’ve enjoyed traveling to France but truly love beach getaways, especially in Florida.

What do they love most about Anchorage? The peacefulness, the trees, and the safe, family-friendly environment where their kids can play outside freely. And their favorite part of Stroll Anchorage Magazine? The personal stories that help connect the community!

Next time you see the Galownia family, be sure to say hello—they're always up for a good conversation, a home-cooked meal, or a little beach daydreaming!
