Meet Karin Tyrer, Realtor with RE/MAX Properties East
Happily Serving Anchorage for 21 Years and Counting!
Karin Tyrer has been an active Anchorage resident participating in our community for more than 21 years. Currently a member of Anchorage City Council, Karin has a wide background of community service to our village, from classroom volunteer work at Anchorage School and APTA leadership to presidency of the Anchorage Civic Club and Anchorage Botanical Society.
In her career as a Realtor with RE/MAX Properties East, she sells homes all across the Louisville Metro area, but she says her greatest joy is bringing new neighbors to Anchorage and assisting current neighbors with the sale of their home when the time comes to relocate.
Karin serves as a GLI City Champ, representing Louisville to people considering relocation to our area. “I am a natural recruiter and includer,” says Karin. “I love to connect people and help them get involved, assimilated, and feel part of the community.” She continues, “In real estate, that means I not only show my clients houses, but I help them learn our city, our neighborhoods, our schools, and more. I introduce them to others, provide contractors and resources and help them feel at home even long after the purchase of their home.”
“I also crave community engagement – helping my community and knowing my neighbors,” says Karin. “I get that through service. I grew up in Minneapolis with parents who set a strong example of how to be an engaged member of the community. They volunteered for causes they believed in and served faithfully in every organization they belonged to. And those were many! Often, my sister, brother and I served right alongside them as we grew up. At 81 and 82 years old, it is still a joy for my parents to be involved in their community, and it’s a joy for me to be fully engaged in the Anchorage community, as well.”
Running for City Council last fall fulfilled a longtime dream for Karin, who says she has always wanted to run for public office. After completing her 3-year term on the Anchorage Civic Club in early 2021, Karin looked for her next opportunity to serve her neighbors. The Civic Club had put her in frequent contact with the staff at City Hall and City Council members. When they asked her to volunteer on a City communications project, she readily agreed and helped develop the new City of Anchorage website and Anchor Age e-newsletter.
“I find it very satisfying to create things, improve things, and make them more efficient,” says Karin. “Helping create the beautiful new website that better represents Anchorage and serves our community was immensely rewarding. And the e-newsletter is not only more attractive, but it’s better read and is saving money and resources. It’s an all-around win. I love it!”
Karin’s experience on these projects prompted her to run for City Council to deepen her service to her neighbors. She won election last November and began her 2-year term in January. Since then, Karin has served on the sewer and traffic committees for the city’s southeast quadrant, is the council representative on the Forestry Board, and continues her work on the communication committee. Karin encourages any neighbor who wants to be involved with the city or learn more to reach out to her or another council member. “We can always use extra hands on a project,” she says, “and we would be honored to have your contribution.”
Karin offers the same dedication and high level of service to her real estate clients and says it is her pleasure to do so. “This is the perfect job for me,” she says. “It’s full of variety, keeps me engaged in the community, meeting all different people, and allows me to be of service to others. I feel so fortunate to be able to do this each day!”
When asked about her take on the real estate market, Karin says, “It’s still very strong. Despite interest rates rising and the overall number of sales falling, I just had one of my strongest years ever. It’s still a seller’s market due to the shortage of available homes. , but things are beginning to normalize a little at most price points. We’re seeing fewer multiple offers, more days on the market, and slightly improved pricing.”
In addition to her career in real estate and her volunteer community service, Karin and her husband, Brad, go on one international adventure each year (this last year was Italy, this year Southeast Asia is planned). They also have both completed their goal of visiting all 50 states. Brad completed his quest recently on a trip to Oregon, and Karin is excited to check off her 50th on a family ski trip to Idaho this last December. They remain very close to their two sons who grew up in Anchorage: Braden and his wife, Lindsay, live in Columbia, MO, and Truman is in his third year of dental school at the University of Kentucky.
Karin looks forward to seeing you soon at a City Council meeting, a Civic Club event, or walking one of our trails!
