Meet the Deutsch Family

Your Friendly Anchorage Neighbors

Franklin and Kayce Deutsch, along with their three children, Delaney (7), Ben (5), and Stella (3), are proud residents of Anchorage.

Originally from southern Jefferson County, Franklin grew up on a dairy farm. They share, “His family had multiple generations on the farm and later sold to move to Taylorsville where they switched to crop farming and you can see them at your local farmer's market! Definitely try the cinnamon bread!”

Kayce's family moved to Anchorage in 1989, with her parents still living in the area just outside the school district. She shares fondly, “We lived on Surrey Lane, then my parents built on Creel Lodge when it was just being divided. I remember playing on the dirt piles, and watching each basement be poured. I graduated from Anchorage School in 1998.”  As a couple, Franklin and Kayce lived in different places over the years but have settled back in Anchorage since 2021.

Even though not related by blood, the Deutsch family considers "Honey" a special member. She plays a role akin to that of a grandparent, looking after the kids at their house while the parents work. "Honey" is instrumental in keeping the household running smoothly, ensuring they stay on top of groceries, pet appointments, and more. Alongside Mimi (Ware) and Pop (Ware), they're invaluable pillars of support for the Deutsch family.

Their furry family members include Crockett, a Leonberger, Boone, a black Great Dane mix, and Cinder, who they affectionately describe as a black mop. Crockett is slowing down with age, while Cinder brings playful energy to the household.

After graduating from the University of Kentucky and earning her master's degree at Indiana University Southeast, Kayce embarked on a career as a teacher, where she currently serves students in Bullitt County. Meanwhile, Franklin works as an HVAC technician for Hussung Mechanical Contractors. Both Kayce and Franklin are involved in community activities, with Kayce running for the school board in 2022 and becoming a member of the Civic Club board, looking forward to taking on new responsibilities and helping to foster our great community spirit.

Their kids are involved in various activities. They share, “We are trying to get our kids in as many things as possible to find their interests. Delaney has done field hockey, basketball, tennis clinics, junior PGA, soccer, and will start softball for the first time this spring. Ben has done soccer, junior PGA ("Little Birdies"), Little Ninjas (like American Ninja Warrior!), and is brand new to basketball. Stella is anxiously awaiting her turn and is excited about taking her first crack at a sport and will be trying t-ball this spring.” They also enjoy spending time outdoors and have taken up the 1000 Hours Outside challenge.

The Deutsch family loves spending time together, whether it's enjoying home-cooked meals around the dining table or planning trips to Disney World, a favorite vacation destination.

For Kayce, the best part of living in Anchorage is the strong sense of community. She cherishes the lifelong friendships formed here and the opportunity for her children to experience the same. She explains, “I think it's unique that our family has so much grandparent and even great-grandparent involvement. My parents are often the ones at pick up, visiting for lunch, stopping by for speech, or dropping off a forgotten item. My grandparents, the kids' great-grandparents attend Christmas in Anchorage, special meal days at the school with Delaney, and we have a nightly Facetime with them.”

The Deutschs are happy to be part of Anchorage and are always ready to lend a hand or offer advice to their neighbors. Kayce shares, “It's so special to see familiar faces I've known for decades around the community. My kids are playing with friends and neighbors who were also my friends and neighbors 30+ years ago.”

The Deutsch family exemplifies the strong bonds within Anchorage. Don't hesitate to greet them when you spot them around the neighborhood!
