CreateSpace Savannah: Creating a World Class Space for Children

What is CreateSpace?
We are a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization working to create a new indoor play space and children’s museum focused on the arts and sciences in Savannah. We love the city of Savannah and believe our community deserves and can support an innovative, world-class experience for children.

How long have you been working with CreateSpace Children’s Museum? What made you want to get involved?
I'm the board president of CreateSpace Children's Museum. CreateSpace officially launched in September 2023. We're still in the early stages of fundraising, but with the right supporters and corporate sponsors, we can create an extraordinary space for Savannah's children and families. It's harder and harder to find communal spaces that serve families, and we want to change that. One of our inspirations is the Savannah Science Museum, which no longer exists, but was a formative field trip for kids like me who grew up in Savannah in the eighties and nineties. If you visited, you definitely remember the giant human heart, and we're hoping to incorporate something similar in our museum. We want CreateSpace to be a place where families can make memories and will return repeatedly.

What is the vision for the museum?
The goal is for CreateSpace Children’s Museum to be an inclusive, accessible, indoor environment that promotes learning through play year-round. We've been working with SCAD's Themed Entertainment Design department on our exhibit concepts and renderings, and they have come up with some really incredible designs. Our museum vision includes areas for pretend play, climbing, making music, an arts and crafts center, and STEM-based (science, technology, engineering, and math) exhibits highlighting nature, energy, the human body, and our everyday world. Savannah is such a unique city, and we want to build something that truly reflects that and serves our community for years to come.

How can Ardsley Park community members help you or get involved?
Our priorities right now are fundraising--every contribution, no matter the size, brings us one step closer to achieving our mission--and sharing our vision through social media, friends and neighbors, local businesses, and word of mouth. The more support we have, the sooner we can bring CreateSpace Children's Museum to life.
