HURRICANE PREPAREDNESS
Hurricane Beryl may have been categorized only as a Category 1 but it left a devastating impact on our community. It was strong enough to cause a power outage which affected over 2 million people in Houston area alone. Each year, these powerful storms remind us of their unpredictable nature and the importance of preparedness.
Here are a few tips to keep safe during future storms:
- Find Shelter: Stay inside and avoid going outside unless absolutely necessary. Avoid windows.
- Stock up on Essential Supplies: Keep a supply of water, non-perishable food, medications, and a first-aid kit. Keep flashlights and batteries nearby. A battery-operated radio is also useful for updates.
- Medication: Make sure you have an adequate supply of any prescription medications to manage any medical conditions.
- Emergency Medical Care: Know where your local hospitals are.
Being as prepared as we can be for hurricanes is vital. We have to expect the unexpected. Hopefully the next storm won’t be as bad.
