Friday, February 7, 2025, marks National Wear Red Day®, a crucial initiative by the American Heart Association to raise awareness about cardiovascular disease, the leading killer of women.
The residents of Augusta Pines are encouraged to Go Red for Women® to highlight this critical health issue that claims the lives of 1 in 3 women, surpassing all forms of cancer combined.
Key Facts About Women and Cardiovascular Disease
- Cardiovascular disease is more deadly for women than all cancers combined, yet only 44% of women recognize it as their greatest health threat.
- Nearly 45% of females aged 20 and older live with some form of cardiovascular disease, and less than 50% of women enter pregnancy with good heart health.
- Cardiovascular disease is the primary cause of maternal deaths, accounting for over one-third of such fatalities, with Black women facing some of the highest risks.
- 10% to 20% of women experience health issues during pregnancy, with conditions like high blood pressure and gestational diabetes significantly increasing future cardiovascular risk.
