Cristina Schmidt, a dedicated educator from Milton, has been shaping young minds at Cabell Midland High School for five years. Cristina's passion for education and her commitment to her students shines through her work, making her an integral part of the community.

Cristina's family is central to her life, she has been married to her husband Travis, who is a supervisor at Special Metals,  for 22 years. Cristina has two sons, Chandler, who goes to college at the Naval Academy and is majoring in Quantitative Economics, and Dominic, who attends NYU (New York University) and is on the pre-law track majoring in political science and minoring in law and society.

"My love for teaching stems from being around kids and watching them succeed," she shared. This passion has guided her journey from high school through college and into her current role as a teacher.

When asked what she loves most about being an educator, Cristina emphasized the joy of witnessing her students achieve their goals. "There’s nothing quite like seeing a student work hard and finally reach the milestones they’ve set for themselves," Cristina told Stroll Barboursville.

Cristina finds Cabell Midland’s inviting atmosphere to be one of the most unique aspects of the school, fostering a sense of belonging for both students and staff.

Cristina is the Lady Knights girls basketball coach, after serving as an assistant coach for five seasons with the CMHS boys' basketball team. Coaching is a passion she has pursued for over 20 years. Her coaching career spans from middle school teams to leading college athletes as a head coach.

Outside the classroom and off the court, Cristina enjoys working out, which helps her stay energized and focused.

Cristina also appreciates the warmth and friendliness of the local community. "The people here are very welcoming," she said, reflecting on what she loves most about teaching and living in the area.

For those considering a career in education, Cristina offers this advice: “See the big picture in teaching. Always remember why you wanted to get into it.”

With her dedication to helping students succeed and her enthusiasm for coaching and community involvement, Cristina Schmidt is a shining example of the impact a teacher can have both inside and outside the classroom.

Cabell Midland High School and the Barboursville community are fortunate to have such a passionate educator helping shape the next generation.
