Faith Thompson: A Life on the Court and a Vision for the Future

Faith Thompson, an 18-year-old Cabell Midland High School senior, has lived a life centered on basketball, family, and community. She’s the daughter of Todd and Brandi Thompson and has two siblings who inspire and support her journey. Her older brother, Carson, is a sophomore at the University of Kentucky, majoring in Business and Marketing. At the same time, her younger sister, Mya, an 8th grader at Milton Middle School, shines on the basketball court for the Panthers.

Faith’s basketball journey began early, spending weekends in the gym as her dad ran the Milton Youth League for a decade. “I’ve grown up around basketball my whole life,” Faith shared. “Both sides of my family have a history with the game—playing and coaching. It’s always been a part of who I am.”

Now in her fourth season as a shooting guard for the Lady Knights basketball team, Faith has found her rhythm in the sport. “I love the fast pace, the competition, and how aggressive you can be while having fun at the same time,” she said.

Faith credits much of her growth on and off the court to her coach, Randy Templeton. “Coach Templeton is incredible,” Faith told Stroll Barboursville. “He has the biggest heart and supports me through everything I do on and off the court.”

Team culture has been a standout for Faith this season. “What I love most about our team is how we play together, not just as individuals,” she explained. “We get along so well, and the relationships we’ve built create such a strong bond.”

Reflecting on her basketball journey, Faith cherishes the lessons the sport has taught her. “Basketball isn’t just about the game—it’s about leadership, confidence, communication, and teamwork. Those lessons carry over into every part of life,” she said.

One of her favorite memories is making it to the state tournament two years in a row with her teammates. “It was an unforgettable experience and a huge accomplishment for us as a team,” Faith shared.

Beyond basketball, Faith’s sights are set on the future. She plans to attend either the University of Kentucky or Marshall University to pursue a nursing degree, with aspirations of becoming a labor and delivery nurse.“

For those looking to follow in her footsteps, Faith offers this advice: “Be confident in yourself, put in the work, and give 110% every time you step on the court. Most importantly, enjoy every moment because it goes by so fast.”

Faith Thompson’s dedication to basketball, her team, and her dreams for the future reflect her character and the legacy she’s building both on and off the court.
