Hammer Down for Harlan!
Corey and Brett are trekking 50 miles for Harlan's Project and ReMARCable House!
On October 5, Stroll's publisher, Corey Flynn, and her husband, Brett, will be embarking on a 50-mile bicycle ride to support Harlan's Place Foundation in Santa Rosa Beach in the ReMARCable Tour de Keys. This fundraising ride will provide essential services and support to those in need, like 5-year-old Harlan Carey.
Here in the Panhandle, Harlan's parents, Marina and Michael Carey, created Harlan's Place for Harlan and others like him. Their goal was to make a housing community for adults with Down syndrome and special needs where they can flourish, make choices, and experience the richness of life in a setting that respects their unique strengths and aspirations. "Our journey began with a simple yet profound desire: to ensure that Harlan, who has Down Syndrome, can lead an independent life in an environment that mirrors the opportunities available to individuals without disabilities."
Enter Brett and Corey. Born with Cerebral Palsy, Brett's approach is one of determination and perseverance. Through the love and support of family, friends, and many others, he has achieved a Bachelor of Science in Sports Medicine, become a Nationally Registered Paramedic, and earned credentials as a Licensed Athletic Trainer and Strength and Conditioning Specialist. He believes that nothing is impossible with enough grit, grace, humility, and kindness. Upon learning of Harlan’s Place and its mission, Brett was immediately drawn to its purpose. Being part of improving the quality of life for those who, like Brett, are built a bit differently, is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to make a difference.
