Yesterday's Tree
Making Your House a Home

Tonya Waites, Peggy Yarborough & Cortney Wilkinson with Maggie
Yesterday’s Tree is a family-owned business with deep roots in the community. The boutique showroom is 10,000 square feet filled with high-quality furniture, home décor, and carefully selected accessories and gifts. If you’re looking to redesign a single room or turn your house into a home, Yesterday’s Tree has an experienced design team who can bring your personal style to life.
Yesterday’s Tree offers in-home interior design and consultation services, walking customers through every stage of the design process, whether the project is big or small.
Owner Peggy Yarborough works alongside her daughter, Biltmore Park resident Jayme Ray, son Nick Wilkinson, who specializes in hard window treatments, and daughter-in-law Cortney Wilkinson, who is one of the designers.
Yesterday’s Tree is all about relationships, Peggy says. “We do a custom package for each client, providing individual attention on each project. We get to know our clients and their preferences well. Our designers know what is available and will come up with a detailed plan. A good plan will save you money from making mistakes,” she says.
Peggy emphasizes that Yesterday’s Tree is not corporate; it’s a locally owned family store, a friendly place where consultations are done with the shake of a hand, and without retainer fees. “We spend time and detailed attention on each project. Happy customers are consistently how we receive referrals,” Peggy says.
Cortney says deep listening is an instrumental part of the design process: “Whether we meet customers through a phone call or an in-store visit, we will sit down and go over their needs and wants, or go to them to get a feel for their space and style,” she says. She asks customers to tell her about their projects and describe what they envision. It’s also OK to not know what you want. “We figure it out and ask, ‘Where do people gather in your home?’ ‘What are you unhappy about?’ ‘Tell me about the colors you are drawn toward.’ Sometimes design means changing where certain pieces of art or furnishings are located. We are able to be a set of fresh eyes and offer that vision,” Cortney says.
Yesterday’s Tree designer Tonya Waites says that customers quickly become friends. “Designing your home is so personal, and we have a team that supports you every step of the way,” she says. “We can work with customers on every kind of style, and if you see something you want, we can source it. We have deep resources, and we also follow market fashion trends.”
Yesterday’s Tree designers help clients map out their spaces and they select and monitor the installation of floor coverings, furniture, unique lighting, hard and soft window treatments, and accessories. Yesterday’s Tree also offers bedding that the design team calls “supreme.” When the team redesigns bedrooms, they even make the beds! Yesterday’s Tree can customize fabric and has a wide selection of samples on site to peruse.
The design team makes any project a fun experience that turns into lasting friendships. “We are very in tune with the customer,” Cortney says. “We spend a lot of time with them.”
This summer Yesterday’s Tree will celebrate 40 years in business. Cortney shares that customers who use the design services at Yesterday’s Tree often say, “I can’t stop staring at this” and “This is the most beautiful house I have ever lived in.”
