The Skeen Family
The Skeen family is always on the go, whether they’re attending community functions, WVU sporting events, traveling for vacation, or volunteering for local fundraisers! They know that community is so important, and that’s one of the many reasons they chose to settle in Cheat Lake seven years ago.
Nathan and Austyn Skeen have two children, Genevieve, 7, and Christian, 4, plus their tuxedo cat, Bruno. Nathan is originally from Ripley, West Virginia, while Austyn grew up in Mechanicsville, Virginia. Nathan earned an RBA from West Virginia University and is currently a director for Arsenal Resources, a position he has held for the last 12 years. He directs the land efforts of Arsenal’s energy development, focusing primarily in North Central West Virginia. Nathan is involved in Arsenal’s community outreach efforts, which include assisting local schools to buy supplies for students. He is also involved in annual fundraising efforts for charities like The Underprivileged Children Foundation and the Harrison County Child Advocacy Center.
Austyn has a BS in Business Marketing from Fairmont State University and has been a real estate professional for six years. Austyn loves to be involved in the Morgantown community, currently serving as a committee member for the Tri-County Alzheimer’s Walk, Lauren’s Wish, and the WVU Medicine Children’s Hospital Gala. She’s also a 4-year member of BNI (Business Networking International) and is a founding member of the Loyalty Chapter here in Morgantown. This past year, Austyn was named Mrs. West Virginia America 2023, combining her passion for helping others and her love for West Virginia. You’ll read more about her reign in the Mrs. WV America feature in this issue!
Both Nathan and Austyn are members of the West Virginia Botanic Garden, where they enjoy taking their children on nature walks and attending many of the garden events throughout the year.
The kids are also on the go during the week! Christian attends preschool at Avery Methodist Church, and Genevieve is in first grade at Living Oaks Academy at Calvary Chapel Church. She is in her fourth season of All-Star Cheer at Champion Training Academy (CTA) in Morgantown. She competed in her first pageant earlier this year!
When the Skeens have some downtime, they enjoy boating on Cheat Lake during the summer and cheering on the WVU basketball team in the winter. They have season tickets and love being able to experience the games together as a family. Nathan also loves to cheer on his Cincinnati Bengals, and Austyn is a big-time Washington Commanders fan.
The Skeen family also loves to travel. They head down to their second home in North Myrtle Beach as much as possible. They have many traditions there, like going to restaurants at Barefoot Landing, getting ice cream from Joe’s, and attending the Pirates Voyage Dinner Show. Other destinations the Skeens have enjoyed include Turks and Caicos; Amelia Island, Florida; Windy Hill Beach, South Carolina; and Cape Charles, Virginia. They spend every Fourth of July with family in Cape Charles – Genevieve and Christian love to decorate the golf cart and ride in the annual Fourth of July golf cart parade!
The Skeen family loves the sense of community they have found in the Morgantown area. They’re always out and about in town, but after a long day, they look forward to the peacefulness of residing in Cheat Lake.
