A Community United in Recovery

Hurricane Helene Strikes Clemson

Clemson, South Carolina  September 27, 2024

On Friday, September 27, 2024, Clemson faced the destructive forces of Hurricane Helene, a storm that left behind significant damage and widespread power outages. High winds and torrential rains toppled trees, flooded roadways, and caused devastation throughout our community. Yet, in the face of this crisis, Clemson demonstrated its strength, resilience, and unity.

In the wake of the storm, our city saw an outpouring of support from those on the frontlines of recovery, working tirelessly to restore order and safety. First and foremost, a massive thank you to the linemen and utility workers, both local heroes and those who traveled from neighboring areas to lend a hand. Their dedication was nothing short of extraordinary. These men and women worked day and night, battling challenging conditions to restore power to homes and businesses quickly, ensuring that our community could begin the recovery process without delay.

Equally deserving of recognition are the Clemson Public Works Crews, who went above and beyond to clear fallen trees and debris from roadways and power lines. Their long hours of labor, often in dangerous situations, made it possible for linemen and utility crews to access critical areas. Without their relentless efforts, our roadways would have remained blocked, hindering the speed at which the recovery teams could operate.

Thanks to the incredible teamwork between utility workers, linemen, and public works crews, Clemson’s roads were cleared, power was restored, and normalcy began to return sooner than many thought possible. This collaborative spirit reminds us of the strength of our community, and we are immensely grateful for each and every person who contributed to these efforts.
To all the linemen, utility workers, Clemson Public Works crews, volunteers, and first responders—thank you. Your unwavering dedication to the safety and well-being of our community did not go unnoticed, and Clemson will forever be grateful for your service.

Though Hurricane Helene brought destruction, it also showcased the best of Clemson: a community that comes together in the hardest of times, proving that no storm can shake the foundation of unity and perseverance that defines us.

As we continue to recover, we know that many are still far from being completely back to normal. Homes need repairs, businesses are rebuilding, and lives are still being pieced back together. Let’s remember to support one another in the year ahead, offering kindness and assistance wherever it’s needed. Clemson has always been a community that stands together, and together, we will fully recover. No storm, no matter how powerful, can dampen the spirit of this town.
