The Brainchild of The Premiere Car Show of the Valley
This story gives the background of a staple in our summer entertainment. Car culture in Modesto is well known, and this event is the gold standard.
This Summer marked the 16th Annual Del Rio Country Club Premier Car Show of Central Valley. On August 6th, 2023, 325 participants entered autos in what is known to be one of the top car shows in the Valley. Since its beginning, the number of cars is growing and the interest by entrants and viewing attendees is escalating.
In 2007, a downturn in the economy affected many aspects of everyone's existence, including those in the Del Rio community. To generate returned interest in Club life at the Del Rio Country Club, two long-time friends and car enthusiasts brought an idea to the Club management that offered a fresh concept to the Club and fueled a car show revolution in the area. Club members and Del Rio residents Allen Beebe and Jim Reed wanted an auto show event on the Club's property that depicted the top-shelf environment the Country Club was known for. Having been to many car show events over many years of devoted automobile affection, the two men knew that the Club's premier standard was the element for a show that would stand out. The Del Rio Country Club Premier Car Show was created and has thrived. With the atmosphere of luxury and the elevated service standard Del Rio Country Club is known for, the show has been conducted amid towering shade trees on green grass since then.
The first show had about 30 entrants, and the numbers now have eclipsed that. Members and non-members can come and experience the beauty of the sight, the white linen service style for food and beverages, and, of course, every version of automobile fantasy imagined.
Over the years, the show has recognized various categories, with judging done by well-known automobile experts in Modesto. Most recently, the judges have concluded that there was a need to specifically recognize the long-time contributors to the world of automobile modification, so, with that in mind, they created the Bart Bartoni Legends Award, which Bart was awarded first for excellence and his part in creating a culture around this genre. Other categories include having dedicated followings like Best of Show, Best Paint, Best Upholstery, Best Pick-up, Best Corvette, Best Foreign, and a newer class, Best Low-Rider. The show has 48 sponsors that also make a favored choice for which the recipient receives an award.
Whatever your favorite category, the show will never disappoint your sense of awe at the imaginings of these creators of detail and perfection. It is a great way to spend a summer day, and we have the luxury of experiencing it right in our neighborhood.
As for residents Allen and Jim, they are still active in the event's production, and we are grateful for their inventive contribution to life in Del Rio. Proceeds from the show are distributed to First Tee Central Valley. First Tee is a program that serves to help youth development through the game of golf in Stanislaus County.
