Meet the Quinonez Family: Embracing Community, Culture and Connections in Dover
1. Who are the members of your family and what are the ages of your children?
Enrique and Mencia Quinonez have three children - Ashley (23), Adrian (14) and Victoria (10) along with pet, Jack, their Pug (2)
2. Tell us a little bit about you, your background and family?
I am originally from Guatemala and Mencia from the Dominican Republic and moved to the US in 2002. Mencia moved to the states in 1998. I have a background in architecture and building technologies. Mencia comes from the early education industry where she previously owned and operated daycare centers before joining me in my business. Together we own and operate Clean Remodel, a business that specializes in disaster damage restoration and reconstruction of homes impacted by flooding, fire, storm and mold.
3. How long have you been a resident of Dover?
It will be 2 years next February.
4. What originally drew you to move to Dover?
Dover is an oasis of serenity that offers great schools and great people. I always liked driving through Dover when we lived in Dedham. I never thought it would be possible to move here but we were eventually able to.
5. What are some of your family’s favorites? (e.g. Favorite ways to spend time together? Favorite dinners and/or restaurants? Vacation destinations? Shows, music and movies? Sports teams?
We are very involved in futbol and have season tickets to watch the New England Revolution at Gillette Stadium where we attend many MLS matches as well as international events. Our children are avid futbol club players so we travel around New England and abroad to watch them play. We also like to travel frequently to Central America and the Caribbean for leisure and to visit family. Our favorite destination is the one we don’t know yet, we love new experiences, new places.
6. Do you have any family traditions?
Because we come from other countries, in an effort to practice the local holidays and still honor
and teach our kids the ones we grew up with, we chose to fuse them, by introducing some Hispanic dishes and activities to the American holidays. We also include games we grew up with as part of entertainment efforts during family gatherings. Our family also has a very long gastronomic heritage and we are making an effort to teach our kids the traditional way of cooking just like our ancestors. This can be very challenging sometimes with ingredients that are not easily found in the US and the techniques can be a bit rudimentary, but we have learned to adjust accordingly.
7. How are you involved in the community?
Our community involvement includes attending Stroll Dover event and school and soccer activities.
8. What organizations/activities are you and your kids involved with?
We are involved in multiple organizations including Dedham Square Circle, Dedham Junior Women’s Club, Dedham Community House, The Blue Goose International, Charlies’ Angels Pet Initiative and the Preservation Society of Newport County.
9. What is your favorite part about living in Dover?
The peace and quiet, the scenic roads and safety.
