"WE TAKE CARE OF OUR OWN"

This title of the Bruce Springsteen song should be ringing large here in Ford’s Colony.

Thirty-five-year employee of Ford’s Colony Homeowners Association, George Ayers, needs our help. George went in for a medical procedure and suffered a serious stroke. This has forced George into a long term recovery. On every visit with George in rehab he says he wants to get back to work and take care of the residents and help the ladies in the office.

George Ayers has been a fixture in Ford’s Colony since 1989 as project maintenance infrastructure and construction coordinator. Residents of Ford’s Colony who had a question or issue about trees, drainage or many landscape questions would call Ford’s Colony Community Services. Many would just ask for “George.” George is known for his dedication to the preservation of the beauty of Ford’s Colony, and most importantly his caring candor with the homeowners. George would always look at a situation through the homeowner's eyes and help them meet the association standards. His non adversarial approach is notable.

I have been a homeowner in Ford’s Colony for 30 years. In these years George has been instrumental in servicing the needs of the individual homeowner while maintaining the integrity of the whole. In this time, I called George my friend. Like Cher, Elvis or Madonna, in Ford’s Colony, George Ayers is simply known as “George.” If you would be standing with “George” on one of the main roadsides working, almost every passerby would either blow their horn or wave or yell, “George.”

On my most recent visit with George in rehab he said, “Bob, I need to get back to Ford’s Colony.” George seemed stressed. He then said, “Bob, I don’t know what’s going to happen to me. I’m out of money. I have already spent all of my savings.”

“We Take Care of Our Own.”
George has given us 35 years of outstanding service. When you're driving through Ford’s Colony, look at the beauty we enjoy every day. This beauty has George’s fingerprints all over it. We not only owe George a debt a gratitude, we owe him our support. One or two of us contributing won’t make a difference. Together we can make an impact.
