The Elizondo Family
Spreading Joy in the Community Through Operation Santa Baby
Meet Ashley and Shaun Elizondo, who reside in the Highlands of Forest Ridge. They have a son, Aiden (15) and a daughter, Emalyn (11). The family has a Bull Shih named Bozley (which is a Bulldog and Shih Tzu mix) and a French Bulldog, Bruce. Ashley is from Broken Arrow and the family has lived in the Highlands for 9 years. Ashley is a full time realtor and Shaun is a computer forensic analyst for homeland security.
Their favorite part about living in the neighborhood is their neighbors. They love that their street heavily participates in holiday decorating for the kids that walk and run through there with the school. They all get together for the 4th of July and the entire street celebrates by shooting off our fireworks at the same time.
When asked about the family’s favorite activities, Ashley said, “We love to watch movies, hike, camp, explore new cities and beaches, stay active, and we love to cook.” They also LOVE the neighborhood trails, they walk, run, and bike them. They are ESPECIALLY beautiful at sunrise and sunset and really gorgeous in the spring and summer. Some of their favorite restaurants include El Tequila and Caribbean Sushi.
The Elizondos are big Dallas and OU fans and love watching The Goldbergs as a family and will always be suckers for any Disney or Pixar production. Their favorite family destination is Colorado, and they visit Mexico pretty frequently.
“We are big tradition people, down to the day our décor goes up. One of our favorite traditions is Halloween where we pick up two unmade pizzas, trick or treat, and hand our treats to over 500 trick or treaters. We then watch Hocus Pocus inside while eating pizza. We also have a lot of holiday traditions with family that always bring us so much joy.” To relax, the family says no to any outside distractions and spends quality home and alone time. Their lives are ran by schedules and sports, so a nice day to recluse at home is sometimes necessary.
When asked about how she is involved in the community, Ashley shared, “In my line of work, I have the opportunity to help people daily, but one thing that became a passion a few years back was Operation Santa Baby. I got the idea from a virtual limited slot raffle fundraiser for children of deployed military members at Christmas. I thought we could use the same idea to raise money for families in our local community where Christmas just didn't seem to be in the cards for. We asked the community who they knew that either would never ask for help or was receiving it, but needed help.
Our first year, we helped a family of 7 and we spoiled their socks off. The second year we got to bless 4 entire families. We are talking everything on their wish lists (which were so simple and their wants were few) plus so much more for each member of the family, including parents (500$ Aldi grocery cards, $500 gas cards per family etc.). And, last year we helped 3 large families.
It’s been rewarding and the community LOVES giving; not only for the purpose of giving, but because they have a chance to win 85in tv’s, sound systems, termite treatments, Nespresso machines, purses, family activities, and so much more. All items (or money to purchase) are donated by people in our personal and business sphere that believe in the mission! Once we have raffled off all of the items, we personally shop for every single family member and then some of our client database and vendors join us to wrap each item so mom and dad don’t have to. We have the families come pick up the items so they can be the ones to deliver Christmas to their families in a way they choose.”
