The Griffin Promise Autism Clinic
After serving the autism community for the past 10 years, The Griffin Promise Autism Clinic moved to a new location here in Broken Arrow. Now located in the medical plaza at 3100 S. Elm Pl, the clinic is able to serve more individuals, caregivers and professionals through their unique therapy and training programs. This charity goes beyond the old thoughts of treating behavior by meeting each individual where they are through love and acceptance. The belief that the brain and body have a disconnect has led this team to focus on building a relationship and providing access to communication, which is key to building a more inclusive community.
Why did you start these businesses?
To give individuals and caregivers a different approach to treating autism. To help bridge the gap between the neurodivergent community and education, businesses, and professionals that will benefit from their intellect and abilities.
What is your passion or mission surrounding your businesses?
Working with these amazing individuals has taught us just how much they have to offer the world. What we give equals what we receive from our time with them and their families.
What is unique about your businesses?
There is no other autism specialty that offers the same approach and services that we do across the nation. We are blessed to be located here in the heart of the Midwest, but also serve families in many other states through our online trainings and in person outreach programs. While other therapy approaches concentrate on old belief systems around autism, we learn from the individuals themselves. Young adults and adults who know have access to communication are teaching us what techniques and relationships have helped them and in turn what has done harm.
Given your business expertise and the nature of what you do, what advice can you offer to the residents?
As an autism specialist, we want the world to understand that you can't always trust the body. Individuals with autism, often have body apraxia, which means they can't control what their muscles are doing at all times. This can lead to being non-speaking, stimming behaviors, or repeating the same phrase over and over. However, their brain is fully functioning and they have so much to say and offer when given the proper tools and support.
What else should we know about you or your business?
After a rushed move to our new location and lots of changes to insurance this year, our charity needs the support of our community to continue to provide these important programs. Your donations or business sponsorship will help us continue our mission to change lives for many years to come.
