Healthy Heart

February is here and with it comes American Heart Month.  So, let’s look at some heart healthy choices we can make in our lives for a healthier heart.
Longevity and health are closely tied to how we live and the choices we make.  According to the Center for Disease Control, heart disease is the leading cause of death in the United States with one person dying every 33 seconds.   Harvard Medical Publishing states that nearly half of all premature deaths can be contributed to poor lifestyle choices, such as: smoking, poor diet and not exercising. Another risk factor that may not immediately come to mind is poor oral health.
Harvard Medical school proclaims that people with gum disease have a 2 to 3 times higher risk of having a heart attack, stroke, or other cardiovascular problems.  The correlation is thought to be a result of your body’s reaction to chronic inflammation.  Dentists and doctors recommend patients be vigilant with their oral health to reduce cardiovascular risks.
