Precious Pets
Meet Zeus

Family member names: Blake and Angela Williams
Pet’s name: Zeus
Type of animal/breed: Deutsch-Drahthaar
Male or female: Male
Pet’s age:9 years old
Where/why did you get your pet?
I got Zeus from a Breeder in Elgin, Oklahoma to be my hunting companion.
Is there a story behind its name?
Zeus’s name came from the breeder. In the German Breed Registry each litter is labeled alphabetically for each breeder. So the first litter for a breeder is the A litter and all the pups in that litter must have a registered name beginning with the letter of their litter. Zeus comes from an X litter and his registered name is Xeus. I usually spell it with a Z for easy recognition.
Anything special or unusual about them (talents/quirks)?
Zeus has a great on and off switch. When we are hunting, he is fierce and courageous. He has fought with coyotes, killed possums, porcupines, and raccoons and never gives up on finding a lost bird. At home, he turns it off. He is calm and will cuddle if you let him.
What do you like best about your pet?
What I like best about Zeus is his loyalty. He never strays too far. If he can’t see me, he looks for me. I’ve lost him a couple of times while hunting and both times I found him at my truck waiting patiently.
How spoiled is your pet?
Zeus is not too spoiled. He does sleep in our room, and not in the bed. We don’t feed him from the table and he eats cooked chicken.
What else should we know about your pet and/or how your pet has enriched your home/family?
He is the best dog I’ve ever had and is impressive in the field. He has made me a better hunter and instilled a sense of responsibility and discipline through training and working with him. He’s the best.
