Founded by Shari Hunter, this 501(c)(3) strives to create opportunities for individuals with barriers to employment. This local organization has been transforming lives since its establishment in 2013. By providing training, support, and jobs in community employment, they are breaking down barriers and redefining the future for individuals with disabilities.

 

In 2022, they placed 30 individuals in employment opportunities, making a tangible difference for people in the process.  

 

 

Two & Company’s mission is to ensure that individuals of every ability have access to quality employment opportunities. Lisa Herchek, Director of Philanthropy, explains, “We have a team of educators – some with masters’ degrees – and developed a unique curriculum over the past 8 ½ years. Currently, we are in the process of trademarking and copyrighting this curriculum.” This comprehensive job readiness program focuses on instilling excellent workplace habits, empowering individuals to become self-advocates and independent workers. After completing the training, the participants are matched with employment opportunities at partnering businesses. The foundation takes pride in having over 85 businesses actively hiring from their pool of talented individuals!

 

 Supporting Beyond Employment 

 

Two & Company goes beyond securing employment for the individuals they serve. They understand the challenges faced by those who cannot drive independently, which can limit their access to jobs. To address this, the foundation provides non-medical transportation services. They assist individuals in commuting to and from their workplaces, ensuring they have the means to pursue their employment opportunities.

 

 

The story behind Two & Company is deeply personal for Shari, who founded the organization in 2013. Shari explains, “My youngest son, Derek, served as the inspiration behind it. Derek was born 30 years ago and he has inspired everything that we do.” Shari firmly believes that a diagnosis should not define a person and that individuals of every ability can thrive when given the chance to be fully integrated into society.

 

“We are all people doing life together,” says Shari. “I knew the largest hole in the world of exceptional education is integrating individuals.” Making sure that individuals have a way to enter employment after high school in a fully integrated way is essential. That’s where Two & Company helps.

 

 

Be sure to save the date for Two & Company’s annual Fall Harvest Moon fundraiser, hosted by Gates Mills residents David and Frances Dickinson, which has become a well-attended event in past years. The Dickinsons have been instrumental in expanding the foundation's donor database, connecting the nonprofit to countless supporters.

 

The Fall Harvest Moon fundraiser will be held on September 23 at the new location on 177 East Washington Street in Chagrin Falls, promises to be a celebration of graduates, a platform to raise awareness, and an opportunity to express gratitude to those who have supported their mission.

 

Lisa explains that this special event will have a 1920s theme, tying into the date of the building dating to the ‘20s. The meal will be catered and some items will be prepared by Two & Company. Two & Company is on a mission to double the number of individuals they train and place in employment annually. Their name reflects their belief in people doing life together and creating a supportive community where everyone feels at home.
