Duchess & Baby!

7 years ago on Christmas morning, Jason and I received not one but two of the most special gifts. We were presented the opportunity to rescue Duchess and Baby. Since then, they have brought us so much joy, laughter, and most importantly, unconditional love. While we rescued them, they actually rescued us.

By nature, the Chow Chow breed is extremely loyal, independent, and highly intelligent. They are known to be Chinese royalty and that is exactly what they have become in our home.

Baby is our golden baby boy. We picked the name Baby for him because Carol Radziwill from the Real Housewives of New York City named her dog Baby and we fell in love with the name. Just like most newborns, Baby likes to be cuddled.

Duchess is our black beauty. We named her after Fergie from The Black Eyed Peas band. She has lived up to her name. Duchess runs the house and is the biggest diva. She’s definitely is Duchelicious for those of you who know the song.

We have grown up with dogs and Chow Chows are not your typical breed. Because they are so independent and aloof, you cannot get them to do anything you want unless it is their idea.  The only thing we can successfully get them to do is go to the park, take a car ride, and/or walk. We have to spell the word “Park” because they are so astute, always keeping us on our toes.

Baby and Duchess both love living in Gates Mills and enjoy scenic walks throughout the community. They think they own Gates Mills.

The two of them are as spoiled as they should be. Toys galore, food from Italy, and grooming monthly. Jason came up with the saying “We are going hunting” when we go out for the evening. It makes us feel less guilty about leaving them at home. We typically go to dinner and always bring them back something delicious.  As we enter the door, both of them are ready to greet us with tails wagging, knowing we have brought something back from “hunting”.  After we exchange all the love, we will say in unison, "We went hunting for you pups!  Who is hungry?" Then they both get so excited! They prefer steak, and fish and also love plain pasta noodles and can eat off a fork without any problem whatsoever.

Our Christmas miracles have created so much joy and memories that we will cherish for eternity. Christmas has become our favorite time of the year since we received our puppies.

Baby and Duchess are both Yin and Yang to one another. They complete each other and are the most amazing dogs ever.  If you ever see us out on a walk, please say hello!
