The past couple of years have been particularly challenging for children's dental health, especially considering the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Dr. Nevar observed that many kids were missing out on regular dental care, leading to more significant issues than anticipated. The delayed return to routine dental schedules resulted in the need for extensive treatments, often requiring sedation to alleviate any anxiety associated with dentistry.

 

 

For Dr. Derek Nevar, dentistry is more than a profession; it's a family legacy. Raised by a father who is a dentist and mother who is a hygienist (not to mention an uncle and cousin who are also dentists), his childhood was immersed in the dental world.

 

“I saw the interactions that my dad had with patients,” he comments. “I saw the fulfillment he got from helping them, whether they were in pain or were self-conscious about their smile.” Bringing hope and healing to patients is rewarding to Dr. Nevar.

 

“I also like to talk and get to know people’s stories,” he adds. “We share our own experiences with them and get to know their family. It’s a nice work environment. It’s also a lot of fun, with laughter involved."

Through the years, Dr. Nevar and his family have treated countless patients. In 2020, Dr. Nevar relocated his practice to Mayfield Village, strategically located to serve patients who had been under his care while working as an associate dentist in his family’s Chesterland office and those he served in his Euclid practice. Embracing cutting-edge technology, the new Mayfield Village practice sets a standard of care for patients and adapts to the evolving landscape of modern dentistry. His practice goes beyond conventional dental care, addressing the needs of anxious patients through detailed communication of treatment and operatories equipped with dimmable lights, a big screen TV, music, and background entertainment. The goal is to create a positive and comfortable experience for every patient.

 

Dr. Derek Nevar earned his DDS degree from The Ohio State University – College of Dentistry in 2007. His professional journey led him to work alongside his family at Nevar & Nevar, DDS, Inc., where he honed his skills. Dr. Nevar's commitment to pediatric dentistry grew from his love of children (he has three of his own) and mentorship of his father and Dr. James Wensink at Northcoast Dental, sparking a passion for providing dental care to children and promoting dental health education.

 

In 2010, Dr. Nevar took a significant step by opening his own practice, Derek T. Nevar, DDS, LLC, in Euclid, OH. This decision marked not only a professional milestone but also a commitment to continue the legacy of exceptional dental care in his community.

 

Coming out of the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Nevar emphasizes the importance of addressing dental needs that may have been neglected. From children missing their first cleanings to assessing general oral health, Dr. Nevar advocates for a preventive approach, recognizing the link between poor home care and the development of childhood cavities. Beyond the dental chair, Dr. Nevar is deeply involved in his community, sponsoring youth sports teams, volunteering to coach various sports teams his three kids play on, and emphasizing the importance of supporting the communities in which we live and work. Previously, Dr. Nevar was an active member of the Rotary Club of Hillcrest – Sunrise (2008-2014) and volunteer trustee with the Chesterland Chamber of Commerce (2008-2015). The busy schedule that comes with three children and his involvement with their sports teams and activities has put his active involvement on hold for now, but he continues to support them and puts great value on the services such organizations provide our community.
