Living in Gates Mills is a dream come true for the Grabowski family. Ed and Laura Grabowski like the quietness it offers them along with its small village feel. “It’s like a mini-Mayberry,” they explain. They also appreciate their great neighbors and the nature it provides them.

Gates Mills holds a special place in the hearts of the Grabowski family, particularly for Laura, who grew up in the neighborhood. When her parents retired, she and Ed decided to purchase her childhood home, anchoring themselves to the familiar streets that hold treasured memories. They have resided in Gates Mills for over six decades, witnessing the evolution of the community and contributing to its rich tapestry of stories.

Professions + Pastimes

As for their professions, Ed has gracefully transitioned into retirement, dedicating his time to meaningful volunteer work with veterans and addiction recovery. He worked as a firefighter for Gates Mills Fire Department for 14 years after attending the Navy Nuclear Power School, Ohio firefighter schools, and several trade schools, broadening his educational experience in the process.

Laura, who earned her MBA from Baldwin Wallace, is a co-owner of the family business, Hahn Manufacturing, located in Cleveland. Their professional pursuits reflect their unwavering commitment to service and making a positive impact on the lives of others.

In Laura’s free time, she likes gardening and landscaping with her green thumb. Ed prefers history research. Both can agree on dining out and traveling. To relax, they like to soak in the hot tub to unwind. You can also find them watching a little television.

Family Traditions

Family traditions play an integral role in the Grabowski household, with travel taking center stage. Their journeys have primarily been international, indulging in cruises and resort experiences that have created lasting memories for all. However, the Grabowski family knows that life's adventures can take unexpected turns. On one occasion, they found themselves inadvertently stuck in Canada due to a hilarious misstep by dear old dad. These humorous and heartwarming tales bond them together, reminding them to embrace the unexpected with laughter and grace.

A Happy Family

“We have four adopted adult children: one from China, one from Vietnam, and two after fostering them for two years,” says Laura. Their children are now adults, each blazing his or her own trail in life.

Now Ed and Laura enjoy the constant companionship of their puppy, Laci, and their rescue puppy, Chloe. They welcomed Chloe into their hearts and homes after their Basset passed. “Three days later she was diagnosed with parvo and was in ICU for 11 days at the Metropolitan Veterinary Hospital on Alpha Dr. It was because of their over-and-above efforts that Chloe is with us today,” explains Ed.

Final Thoughts

May the Grabowski family's story inspire us to seek joy in life's simple pleasures, open our hearts to those in need, and nurture the bonds of community that make our neighborhoods truly special. We wish them many more years of happiness here in Gates Mills!
