A Modern Mountain Masterpiece
With the number of lots remaining in the exclusive Governors Club neighborhood dwindling, BOLD took on the task of seeing the potential in a parcel that many would shy away from. “Designing a home set into a hillside creates opportunities to explore new ideas,” says Jason Dell of BOLD Construction. This home recently won the 2022 Triangle Parade of Homes GOLD Medal, a testament to its powerful form and functionality.
It started with a European-style side courtyard with multiple garages. The tunneled entry allowed for the creation of a large home with windows to view the outside in every space. The sloping topography and spectacular trees provide stunning long views. The way courtyard homes were designed in the past was carefully studied, noting the emphasis on light and airflow.
The exterior materials and sleek interior design marry for a sense of sophisticated coziness. Dark fiber cement board with mitered edges meets stucco foundation walls trimmed with painted brick and stone. The outside of the home is accented with stained wood that ties all these elements together.
In working with the terrain, BOLD was able to fashion a terraced boulder wall from the excavated landscape and save as many old-growth trees as possible. Guests are greeted with modern railings and sleek light fixtures. The porch view down to the land gives a feeling of being above the fray of everyday life – a resort stay each day of the week.
The chic slate floors of the foyer gracefully transition into warm hardwoods that stretch through the home. Sixteen-foot ceilings and large bay windows let natural light easily permeate throughout the space. An open floor plan connects the view of the grand staircase to the living space and modern dining area.
In the kitchen, natural light spills over an expansive granite counter splashed with white and gray. A floor-to-ceiling modern fireplace centers the room and defines the space. The owners purposely incorporated custom features to make every room feel special: a loft space, balconies, dressing rooms, and custom closets. The result is a modern mountain masterpiece that the owners and BOLD are proud to present as the Home of the Month.
