The Breakfast Pups

The Breakfast Club Bringing Neighbors and Their Pets Together

Every morning while on my way to school, like clockwork, I see a group walking their dogs. In a recent interview I found the motivation to waking up every morning and walking your dogs is the people you do it with.

This group of friends have come together and most literally formed the Breakfast Club, a mid-’80s film talking about unlikely groups joining for a one-of-a-kind friendship. The group consists of three walkers, Judie Anderson with her dog Beau (meaning beautiful in french), Tom Stephons and his dog Lolie (which means best friend, or I love you), and Lorie Lowe with Tibby.

Although the dogs walk together each morning, they are friends outside of the group too. They will often see each other at the dog park, and the adults often schedule dinner with each other at local restaurants. This group was created three years ago, with Beau being a part of the founding furballs. Many others often join the group to walk their dogs in the morning. A special exception to this was when the cat, Davis love the third, was the first cat to be walked in the morning group. I, a cat owner, find this task of waking up very early to embark on a half-mile walk rather challenging. I am glad for those who are able to do this, meeting every morning creates community and offers a new perspective to conversation for whoever you’re walking with. If you are ever looking for a group to walk with, they are welcome to anyone participating. You will have to be up early, though, as they start around 7 a.m. every day. The breakfast club welcomes you!
