From Easter Island to Bhutan: Celebrating 60 Years with Adventure and Discovery
Two of the nearly 1,000 Moai statues that dot the landscape of Easter Island
The Bates moved into Governors Club this past April shortly after a once in a lifetime trip Around-theWorld! Bill took Andrea and their daughter on an Around The World trip on National Geographic’s private plane. They made stops in Peru (Machu Picchu or Trujillo), Easter Island, Australia (the Great Barrier Reef), Cambodia, Nepal, Bhutan, India (the Taj Mahal), Tanzania, Jordan and Morocco, visiting UNESCO World Heritage Sites along the way. It was a whirlwind trip, covering so much ground in only 25 days, but an extraordinary adventure nonetheless.
Of all the locations they visited, Andrea says, “My favorite was Easter Island. The tiny island dotted with nearly a thousand Moai statues was just breathtaking. The one that surprised me the most was Bhutan. Before this trip, I knew nothing about it and came to realize that it is an amazingly beautiful and welcoming country.“
