Privileged to be the 2024 President of the Memphis Medical Society
- Mission: The Memphis Medical Society (MMS) is a non-profit, physician professional organization, dedicated to uniting and advocating for the physicians of Shelby County and their patients. The Society is a trusted source of up-to-date healthcare industry news and resources to make physicians’ lives better at home and at practice. It is the local chapter of the Tennessee Medical Association (TMA).
My involvement started several years ago with a phone call from CEO of MMS, Clint Cummins with a simple invitation to visit a board meeting. From that first meeting, I was hooked on the importance of advocating for our profession and patients. Collaborating with fellow physicians, healthcare leaders, and legislators throughout the state continues to be tremendously rewarding. Our local State Representative, Kevin Vaughan has been and continues to be a tremendous supporter of quality healthcare for the citizens of Collierville, the Mid-South, and throughout Tennessee.
Examples such as successfully reducing the over-prescribing of opioids in Tennessee, reducing the burdens of prior authorization to necessary medical care and prescription, and improved insurance coverage for enhanced breast screening are simply a few issues of which I’m particularly proud of the MMS and TMA.
MMS serves as a unifying force for physicians in the heart of the Mid-South and is a catalyst for positive change within the community. Founded on principles of collaboration, education, and advocacy, the society plays a pivotal role in advancing healthcare standards and addressing the evolving needs of the Memphis area population.
We foster a vibrant network of physicians facilitating collaboration and knowledge sharing. Through regular meetings, conferences, and networking events, members can connect with peers, exchange best practices, and stay abreast of the latest opportunities to advocate on behalf of our patients and profession. Through various community outreach initiatives and advocacy efforts, the society actively engages with local residents to address healthcare disparities, promote preventive care, and improve access to medical care.
The Memphis Medical Foundation (MMF) arm of the society promotes physician wellness, public health and empowers the next generation of physician leaders. Unfortunately, as with many occupations, the emotional trauma associated with practicing medicine can levy a heavy toll. MMF Thrive program offers confidential mental health support to our members in distress. Our Project Access program links uninsured patients with the specialists who volunteer to serve. We actively involve our medical students and resident physicians early in their careers to tap into the wonderful excitement they bring to medicine and help share lessons learned by seasoned physicians.
Anyone who would like to donate to the Memphis Medical Foundation which enables linking uninsured patients with needed specialists, helping with confidential mental health needs of physicians, and developing the next generation of healthcare leaders please follow the link below. Your contribution is tax-deductible and very much appreciated.
I’m humbled and proud to represent the Memphis Medical Society as President in 2024. I encourage everyone to find a cause dear to their hearts. Contribute to our community in any way you are able. Volunteer your time. Advocate for your passion!
Thank you, Halle Family, for creating a wonderful neighborhood in which to live, raise a family, enjoy life, and thrive!
