Madison Holston: A Rising Star in Swimming and Running

At just 13 years old, Madison Holston is making waves in both swimming and running. A dedicated athlete and student at Midlothian Middle School, Madison has been swimming since she was five years old and now competes year-round for Quest Swimming. She also serves as the captain of the cross-country and winter running teams at Midlothian Middle School while competing in track as well.

A Passion for Swimming
Madison’s journey in swimming began when she joined the summer league for Hallsley at age five. Encouraged by her coaches, she transitioned to year-round swimming at nine years old and has loved the sport ever since. She practices diligently at the Evergreen Recreational Center and Quest Swimming on Deer Run, constantly working to improve her performance.

Over the years, Madison has earned several honors, including the Coaches Award for Quest Swimming four years in a row and the Competitive Spirit Award last year. She also received the Coaches Award for track and cross-country this year, showcasing her well-rounded athletic abilities. One of her proudest moments came when her relay team—comprising herself, Gabe Schwabe, Zach Fisher, and Caitlyn Moore—set a CAL record in the 200-medley relay at the Fox Creek vs. Hallsley meet.

Dedication to Running
In addition to swimming, Madison is a standout in running. She captains both the cross-country and winter running teams and is a dedicated track athlete. Her leadership skills and perseverance have earned her recognition, including the Coaches Award for cross-country this year. Madison’s hard work and determination make her a role model for younger athletes looking to balance multiple sports.

Inspiration and Future Aspirations
Madison looks up to Gretchen Walsh, an Olympic swimmer from UVA, whom she had the opportunity to meet at a swim camp. Walsh’s incredible times and inspiring journey motivate Madison to push herself in the pool every day. Traveling for competitions has also been an exciting part of Madison’s journey, with trips to Virginia Beach, Stafford, North Carolina, and an upcoming competition at the East Coast Championship in Florida this April.

Beyond athletics, Madison is also a dedicated student who values mentorship. She names Ms. McClure as her favorite teacher at Midlothian Middle School, appreciating the encouragement and support she receives in the classroom. After graduating, Madison plans to major in sports and marketing, combining her passion for athletics with a strong academic foundation.
