Meet Cooper: Our Beloved Australian Cobberdog

Cooper joined the Norell family in March as an 8.5-week-old bundle of energy and love. After years of their children asking for a dog, it was serendipitous that Karlee's husband attended a public speaking course where a coworker presented on Australian Cobberdogs. That presentation introduced them to this special breed, and the timing couldn’t have been better.

The name “Cooper” was a unanimous choice, landing in the top five of all four family members’ lists—a perfect match for their chocolate-colored escape artist! From the start, Cooper’s unique personality shone through. He was the only chocolate pup in his litter and displayed a knack for adventure, even as a little guy.

Australian Cobberdogs, a recognized breed since 2012, were specifically developed as therapy dogs. Known for their hypoallergenic coats and gentle nature, they’re perfect companions, and Cooper is no exception. His breeders donate a puppy from each litter to become a therapy dog and contribute proceeds to their local SPCA—a mission that resonates with the Norells deeply.

Cooper is both comfort and comic relief for their family. His mischief knows no bounds—like the time he tried to outsmart them with his escapes—but his loving nature wins over everyone. Neighbors often join him for walks along the path by their yard, and he eagerly greets kids at the bus stop and his dog friends on the street.

While he had to attend Doggie Boarding School to refine his manners, Cooper knows exactly who in the house is a pushover and who sets the rules. He’s spoiled with snuggles and even takes over Mom’s spot in bed the moment she leaves for the gym.

Cooper’s arrival has filled their home with joy, love, and unforgettable moments. "It’s hard to imagine life without him!"
