The Lucas Family
A Story of Love, Resilience, and Community
Taylor and Colby Lucas, along with their 6-year-old daughter Jade, have found a perfect home in Hammock Bay, Florida. Originally from Alabama, the Lucases had long dreamed of living near the beach, but it wasn’t until they discovered the welcoming, family-oriented Hammock Bay that they felt truly at home. “It’s safe, beautiful, and there’s always something to do,” says Taylor, reflecting on their experience after moving to the community a little over a year ago.
The family quickly fell in love with the friendly atmosphere. “You can’t drive down the street without someone waving,” Taylor notes, adding that community events are a regular source of fun and connection.
Taylor and Colby’s love story began in high school, where they were friends for two years before becoming a couple in 2015. Colby enlisted in the Marine Corps, and their relationship faced challenges, particularly when he was stationed at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, and deployed to Afghanistan. During his deployment, Taylor learned she was pregnant with Jade. “It was tough, but we got through it,” she says. Despite the distance, Colby kept in touch, and ended up coming home just in time for Jade’s birth!
After four years of military life, multiple deployments, and frequent moves, the Lucases transitioned to civilian life. Colby now works for Legendary custom home builders, while Taylor stays at home to raise Jade and take care of their growing family of pets, including two German Shepherds and a Bearded Dragon.
Life in Hammock Bay suits the Lucas family’s active lifestyle. They love spending time outdoors, often heading to the beach or participating in local events. Jade is a cheerleader for the Wildcats, and the family enjoys playing golf, pickleball, and other sports together. “We’re always playing outside or having movie nights at home with popcorn and candy,” Taylor says. Colby is also handy around the house, constantly working on DIY projects, while Taylor and Jade bond over arts and crafts.
The Lucases are active in their local church, Destiny Worship Center, and Taylor volunteers at a local animal shelter. The family also enjoys the local food scene, especially Abide Coffee and dining at The Bay for sushi and steaks.
Family traditions play a big role in their lives, especially around the holidays. One of their favorite traditions is playing games together during Thanksgiving and Christmas.
For the Lucases, life in Hammock Bay is all about cherishing the small moments and building strong connections with the people around them. “We are so thankful for our life and this community,” says Taylor, grateful for the close-knit neighborhood they now call home.
