Restaurant Night: A Night of Chicago Flavors

On August 19, Hammock Bay residents and STROLL readers enjoyed a delightful evening at At’s A Chicago Pizza, a new culinary hotspot in Freeport. Owners Angelo and Sofia Michaels hosted a private event showcasing authentic Chicago-style cuisine, creating a memorable experience for all.

Located off Ramsey Branch Road, the restaurant buzzed with excitement as it accommodated up to 30 guests. The warm and welcoming atmosphere, thanks to Angelo and Sofia, set the tone for the night. "We wanted to share our love for Chicago pizza with our new community," Sofia shared. "It’s been a wonderful adventure, and we’re excited for what’s to come."

The evening began with appetizers like garlic knots and breadsticks, with the garlic knots quickly becoming a favorite among the guests. As the night progressed, the Michaels served a range of Chicago staples, including the Classic Italian Beef Sandwich, Angelo’s Cheesy Beef Sandwich, Liberty Cheesy Beef Sandwich, and the Chicago Style Hot Dog. The Chicago Dog, featuring an all-beef hot dog with relish, onions, tomatoes, pickles, sport peppers, mustard, and celery salt on a poppy seed bun, was especially praised. "The Chicago dog was a very close second to the deep dish pizza for me. I loved the variety of flavors! It was a little sweet and very satisfying!" said Krissa Johansen.

The highlight of the evening was the pizzas. The Michaels served an impressive selection of both deep dish and thin crust varieties throughout the night. “Our regular menu includes six specialty pizzas on Chicago deep dish or thin crust,” Angelo explained. “You can also build your own pizza for endless combinations.” The feedback was overwhelmingly positive. Ruby Denisse, a Hammock Bay resident, remarked, “I’m from Colombia, where pizza is a specialty, and my expectations were very high. At’s A Chicago Pizza exceeded them. I recommend everyone come here and experience it for themselves.” J.J. Johansen, who grew up near Chicago, added, “At’s A Chicago Pizza rivals all the Chicago pizza restaurants I grew up going to with my family. I can’t wait to bring my brothers here—they’re going to love it!”

Dessert concluded the meal, featuring Sofia’s Homemade Baklava, Cheesecake, and Cannoli, all receiving high praise. Beth Brendlinger exclaimed, “I couldn’t believe how delicious their cheesecake was! I loved everything, but I will go back for that cheesecake alone!”

Rita Cottrell reflected, “We really enjoyed the food. The hosts were delightful, and their kids were wonderful. Angelo was very gracious.”

The Michaels ended the evening with heartfelt thanks. “From the bottom of our cheesy hearts, thank you for the overwhelming support and love we’ve received,” Sofia said. Their enthusiasm and dedication to the Hammock Bay community made the event a true celebration of local spirit and excellent cuisine.
