Katie and Perry met and fell in love during college when they sang together in choir—a charming prelude to their life in a community aptly named Harmony! When they wed and settled down, Colorado felt like a natural choice. Their decision was influenced by Perry’s passion for cycling, a shared adoration for the mountains, and family ties in the West –– in that order, ha!

 

(Sadly, for Perry, cycling got shoved aside for a good decade.) Those early years were bustling with activity as they welcomed four children in quick succession: Luke (now 23), Sophia (21), Ellie (20), and Sam (16). Along the way, they discovered an unexpected passion for homebuilding, where their creativity converged with craftsmanship, allowing them to bring a personalized touch to every space they design.

 

“Building our first home was a pivotal experience,” Katie recalls. “We loved the process, and as our family’s needs evolved, we kept building. Designing spaces that adapt to different stages of life has been incredibly rewarding. The house I designed for our toddlers was very different from the one we needed for teenagers!”

 

In Harmony, the Marshalls have built four homes, and their appreciation for the neighborhood has deepened with each project. “Like many families during the pandemic, we got puppies!” Katie laughs, pointing to their King Charles Cavaliers. “Walking Luna and Lupo daily has given me a chance to see how Harmony has grown over the past 14 years. The trees have matured beautifully! I love the nature trails, the private lakes and ponds—it’s truly a paradise. We love it here.” And with their latest home freshly completed (WOO HOO!) Perry is thrilled to get back to cycling! 

 

Katie’s professional life reflects her deep commitment to home and community. As the founder of KT Marshall Design, a boutique interior design studio, she helps homeowners transform their spaces with an approach that blends beauty with practicality. Working closely with clients and local builders, Katie ensures that every home is both personalized and functional, reflecting the unique needs of the family.

 

For Katie and Perry, home truly is where their heart is. “With Sam only two years away from leaving for college,” Katie shares, “we’re cherishing every moment.” Their older children live nearby, and the family frequently comes together for concerts or cozy dinners at home.
