Welcome to the gratitude issue of Stroll Historic Brookhaven, where we celebrate giving back. For our cover family, the Foxworthys, philanthropy is a big part of their lives. In fact, Jeff jokes that his calendar can be full but there won’t be a paying gig for a month because he is doing so much non-profit work.

Read our cover story to learn more about Jeff, his wife of 38 years Pamela Gregg, and their family: daughters Jordan and Jules, Jules’ husband Brendan Corley, grandson Ronan, and baby granddaughter Quinn. Our non-profit feature this month is dedicated to five charities currently supported by the Foxworthy family, including CURE Childhood Cancer and the Atlanta Mission where Jeff led a Bible study for years.

Our precious pets are all rescues. The Simons have two dogs of their own, Darcy and Cooper, and often take care of their granddog Hanson. Learn more about each dog’s story, their fun indoor scent game of Find It, and what the words “car ride” inspire.

As you prepare for Thanksgiving, check out our guest columnists’ recipe and meal organization tips. Get a start on December holiday decorating with updates on the Mailbox Brigade and find out about a new neighborhood events committee that will include holiday parties, wine tastings, bunko, and more.

If you’re starting to plan your 2024 vacation, read our piece on a walking tour of Croatia, written by longtime resident Brooke Trible Weinmann. Brooke, who has traveled the world and currently leads journeys for Connoisseur Tours, joins Stroll this month as an occasional guest columnist.

As you peruse the pages of this issue, I want you to know how grateful I am to you, our readers, for all your support and feedback. You make writing about our neighborhood a constant joy. Send me an email at lgwargo@aol.com and tell me what you like about our magazine.

In addition to writing for Stroll, I also love giving back. I support and volunteer with several Atlanta non-profit organizations but the two groups that have most stolen my heart are Just People and the Chastain Horse Park Equine Therapy program. Every Wednesday I work at CHP with adults from Just People, who have mental and physical disabilities. We groom horses, have drill teams and riding lessons, and play games. My sister-in-law Linda had Down Syndrome and was part of a similar program in Miami. I may give my time each week, but these beautiful human beings give me so much more in return!

Happy reading!
Best,
Lisa Wargo
