Ladies of Historic Brookhaven

Fashion Trends at Tootsies with Sara Wolf Mixon

On Tuesday evening March 25, over 30 women met at Helen Parker’s Mabry Road house for the monthly meeting of the Ladies of Historic Brookhaven Social Club. Along with discussing various group activities, such as the neighborhood Meal Train, the women heard from Tootsies Event Director Sara Wolf Mixon about current fashion trends. Tootsies is a high-end women’s fashion store.

Overall, Sara advised women to wear what feels good and looks good on them. “Anything goes now,” she said. Fashion is more cross-generational.

When it comes to adding the latest style to a wardrobe, Sara suggested choosing accessories that exemplify the trend rather than swapping out an entire closet each season. For example, yellow is in this spring and summer. Consider a yellow purse, belt, or scarf to update your look. “Pick up a color or fabric or print that makes you feel good and fashion forward,” she said.

What else is in for 2024? Here’s what Sara told the Social Club:

  • Brown
  • Preppy
  • Sheer layering pieces
  • Lots of stripes
  • Miniskirts – wear them with tights if uncomfortable bare legged
  • High-waisted skirts and pants
  • Full-on denim outfits
  • Western – cowboy boots with an outfit, for example
  • More structured pieces and pants closer to the leg-- as opposed to the athleisure and relaxed fits of the pandemic

Regarding shoes, Sara noted several trends: block heels, loafers, Mary Jane’s, and wedges. Tennis shoes are still popular, with Adidas being a hot brand for this season. For jeans, white is still a staple for summer, and less prominent distressing and rips are still fashionable.

“If it feels good on you and looks good on you, great – that’s when you should purchase a piece,” Sara said. “All of you are beautiful and you should feel good in what you put on.”
