Sarah Cyrus Home Celebrates 10 Years

Sarah Cyrus

After leaving behind a career in corporate media sales, Brookhaven Drive resident Sarah Cyrus decided to pursue her passion for design and began working at auction houses, art galleries, retail stores, and ultimately the Atlanta Decorative Arts Center (ADAC). She always loved buying and selling quality items and as a side gig also had booths at Scotts and other antique markets.

“I created a hobby for myself that I fell in love with,” she says of her resale gigs. “I always knew I wanted to pursue that primarily.” During her time running a high-end, to-trade showroom at ADAC, she saw the need for a high-quality furnishings resale service.

So ten years ago she left ADAC and opened Sarah Cyrus Home, a 6,500 square-foot store on the Westside. The consignment store offers a curated collection of quality furniture, lighting, décor, and rugs.

The inventory is a mix of items designers ordered but didn’t use, unsold product from local showrooms, returned pieces, and previously owned furniture from individuals who are downsizing or changing their interiors. Each piece the store takes is handpicked and vetted with an eye to shoppers’ interests. “It’s a great opportunity to get something of value and high quality,” Sarah notes.

Filling the store with beautiful merchandise has been easy. Going into her second decade, Sarah says she is now focused on building her customer base. As part of that effort, she plans to hold more in-store events like the one she recently hosted with home organization consultant Carrie Peeples and realtor Ally May.

Carrie spoke to the emotional side of downsizing a home, a familiar topic for many of Sarah’s consignment clients. Not only do they have to decide what to keep, but they also need to figure out what to do with the items they no longer want. “We’re a service for folks who want to be hands off [with their furniture sales] and want the privacy of not having someone come into their home,” says Sarah.

Now that her children Vivian (4) and Maxwell (7) are older, Sarah can focus more on the store. “I’ve got the creativity and more energy now to give this third child, Sarah Cyrus Home, so we’re starting events again,” she says.

Sarah plans to have a weekend-long celebration for the store’s tenth anniversary, which falls on September 19. It will be light, fun, and laid back. “I encourage folks to come in,” she says.
