January

SUBHEAD = 1/Meet the Culleys

Ann and Dave Culley have lived in Historic Brookhaven since 1989, first in a house on Club Drive and now in a townhome on Vermont Place. They raised three sons here. Dave has been in the life insurance industry for 44 years and Ann sells Etcetera women’s clothing. They enjoy walking, playing tennis (Ann) and golf (Dave), and traveling.

SUBHEAD = 2/Landmark: Neighboring Churches

The two churches that sit on the border of Historic Brookhaven have served the community for 65 years. The parish of Peachtree Road Lutheran Church (at Peachtree and Narmore Drive) began in 1949. Members of St. James United Methodist Church (Loridans Drive and Peachtree Dunwoody Road) first gathered at nearby McClatchey Elementary in 1956.

SUBHEAD = 3/Girl Scout Cookie Time!

January is Girl Scout cookie month and at least two neighborhood Scouts and their moms participated in the 100-year-old fundraiser. Hensley Lichtman’s mother Susan was cookie mom for the third-grade troop at Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic School. Kate Meihofer sold cookies as a Sarah Smith Elementary fifth-grader. Mom Catherine was troop leader.

SUBHEAD = 4/Club Estates Garden Club’s Mercy Care Project

Forty-three members of the Club Estates Garden Club, which was founded in 1939 in Historic Brookhaven, decorated the Chamblee location of Mercy Care for the holidays. This is only one of the club’s philanthropic efforts. Mercy Care provides mental and physical healthcare services.

SUBHEAD = 5/Art Tour: Murals of Brookhaven

Looking for something fun to do on a Saturday? Consider touring the art murals painted on walls throughout the City of Brookhaven. Guest writer and art consultant Denise Leitch Jackson recommends murals at Northeast Plaza, along Buford Highway, and at Cross Keys High School.
