One Lamb Hosts Carter Center Event

“Finding Peace of Mind Through Brain Sciences and Spiritual Practices”

One Lamb Founder - Diane Moffett, Historic Brookhaven Resident

On Friday, November 14, Peachtree Road United Methodist Church’s (PRUMC’s) One Lamb Initiative will be hosting a faith-based mental health symposium at the Jimmy Carter Center. “Finding Peace of Mind Through Brain Sciences and Spiritual Practices” will be moderated by Jaye Watson, co-executive producer of Your Fantastic Mind on PBS and former 11Alive journalist. Keynote speakers are Cathy Snapp, PhD, director of Behavioral Health at The Augusta University/University of Georgia Medical Partnership, and Dr. Andrew Newberg, neuroscientist and director of research at the Marcus Institute of Integrative Health.

One Lamb was founded by Historic Brookhaven resident Diane Moffett. It works to nurture and embrace mental wellness through education, connection, and support in faith-based communities. Several other Historic Brookhaven residents are involved in the organization and volunteering with event: Linda Milstead, Lynne Homrich, Anne Marino, Edith Jones, Rebecca Clements, Jolie Maxwell, Ann Strader, Becky McDaniel, Stacey Johnson, and Susan Thigpen.

While the symposium is targeting faith and lay leaders, it is open to all who are interested in cultivating awareness of mental health in their place of faith. One Lamb’s hope is that other faith institutions will use the education and other programming it has developed to address mental health and wellness and create a One Lamb chapter at their place of worship.

“Our hopeful outcome is to create a network for faith leaders to not have to reinvent wheel – to hear and see and learn from one another, know what other people are doing,” says Diane of the symposium.

Although One Lamb grew out of PRUMC, it is for all faiths, including Jewish, Buddhist, Hindu, Muslim, and others. “Rosalynn Carter and the whole Carter Center are interfaith,” Diane says. “It’s very diverse and we hope to achieve that too.”

Tickets for the event are $80. The symposium will run from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and include lunch.

One Lamb is still looking for volunteers for the symposium. Several women from the Brookhaven Bible Study will be on hand to help that day. If you are interested in volunteering or would like more information, email info@1lamb.org.
