Welcome to the April issue of Stroll Historic Brookhaven! This month’s featured resident moved into her Club Drive home six years ago as an empty nester and has embraced all that her home and the neighborhood have to offer ever since. Dr. Debra Gray King loves painting on her front porch, watching college football on her backyard outdoors TV, walking her white lab Cali throughout the streets of Historic Brookhaven, and enjoying close by restaurants. Check out our spotlight to learn more about Dr. King, her family, and business.
Our Precious Pet Winston is well-known to many who pass he and his owner Bob on their daily morning walks. Moms regularly stop their cars to let their kids out to say hello and yard men greet the friendly Sheltie as he walks by off-leash. Read on to learn more about the “Mayor of Brookhaven.”
In this month’s Landmarks with Lisa column, we examine the connection between famous golfer Bobby Jones and Historic Brookhaven. While he didn’t grow up playing the Capital City Club golf course, he won his first notable tournament (the Georgia Amateur) in 1916 on the course and was an active presence at the club following his retirement from golf in 1930.
This issue is full of lots of other tips and stories, including: advice for deer-proofing your yard from resident and Hamilton Land Services owner Tim Gartland, coverage of Anne Irwin’s art talk to the Ladies of Historic Brookhaven Social Club, Nancy Jiang’s recipe for Zeppole pastries, how to get involved in the neighborhood’s new Meal Train, and more.
I hope you enjoy your April. My family will be traveling to Ohio to observe the solar eclipse and a few days later celebrate my son’s birthday. Tell me about your family’s fun adventures, favorite restaurants, business ventures, celebrations, or other happenings. Send me an email at lgwargo@aol.com.
Happy reading!
Best,
