Welcome to the July issue of Stroll Historic Brookhaven! This month, we are thrilled to celebrate our neighborhood’s graduating seniors. Our list is compiled from your submissions as well as culling the neighborhood for congratulatory yard signs. If we missed your child, let us know and we will publish their great news in a future issue. Congratulations to Historic Brookhaven’s high school graduates!

Our cover family is the Brysons – Mark, Melissa, Lindsey, and Katherine. When not at their East Brookhaven home, these residents enjoy spending time at their Hilton Head house and are planning a month-long European adventure this summer.

Mark is the new president of the Historic Brookhaven Neighborhood Association (HBNA). Read our cover feature to learn more about their family, their favorite activities and holiday traditions, and Mark’s plans as HBNA president.

I hope you are enjoying your summer! If walking about the neighborhood, be on the lookout for our Precious Pet Leo Sodemann. Leo is a mixed breed rescue who likes to get to know everyone he passes and acts like the mayor of Historic Brookhaven, according to his owner Kristen.

If you’re looking for a community service project for your kids or neighborhood group, consider a nonperishable food drive for the new PORCH Historic Brookhaven. Started by Club Drive resident Susan Allen, PORCH Historic Brookhaven partners with St. Vincent de Paul’s food pantry to help end food insecurity.

Learn top tips for colorful, healthy container gardens from the Ladies of Historic Brookhaven Social Club’s recent speaker, Mary Susan Stacy of Hamilton Land Services. Read about how to organize your summer tools and toys and best store them for next year in our guest column from organizational consultant Carrie Peeples.

This issue has so much more – including the history of neighboring Canterbury Court, coverage of neighborhood events, and news about a new resident book club.

Take Stroll Historic Brookhaven with you to the pool or beach, and read on! Then, tell me about your summer plans. I’d love to hear about your adventures and favorite ways to beat the heat. Send me an email at lgwargo@aol.com

Summer has always been my favorite season – you can take the girl out of Florida, but not the “Florida” out of the girl. I love the hot weather! While I just got back from cooler environs (two weeks in Ireland and a week at the lake with family), I look forward to beach time soon. Happy summer to all!

Happy reading!
Best,
Lisa Wargo
