Anna Wooten Talks Decorating Trends
At Ladies of Historic Brookhaven Social Club
On Wednesday, January 24, almost 60 women of all ages and from across Historic Brookhaven gathered at Julie Train’s house on West Brookhaven Drive to hear from resident and designer Anna Wooten Loggins. Anna, who lives on Vermont Road, is known for creating fresh yet personalized takes on classic design, and her work has been featured in Atlanta Homes + Lifestyles, Coastal Living, Cottage Home, Atlanta Magazine, and Modern Luxury.
With the social club, she discussed decorating trends for 2024, gardening, bookshelves, art, and paint color. Here are highlights from her presentation:
Trends for 2024:
- Game tables – This stems partly from the popularity of mahjong. A game table can be 30 inches high and placed in a formal space or larger, like a dining table with extensions, for a big room.
- Round pillows – Anna jokes this is her trend alone, but is adding them to many spaces.
- Fun lampshades – Think prints, shades with trim, and colors.
- Gardening: Bring things from your yard inside to decorate your house. Winter jasmine, limelight, and hydrangea blooms look great. Also consider oak leaves, Japanese maple, and magnolia. If your garden doesn’t include quince, Anna advises adding it this spring. Get creative with your vessel, she notes. For example, even a champagne bucket can make a great vase.
- Bookshelves: Here, scale, repetition, and zigzagging are important. Include large and small objects and everything in between, and be sure to balance them out. For kitchen shelves, Anna advises buying things you will use that also look pretty on display. She recommends everyone invest in a set of good white dinnerware.
- Art: Buy what you cannot live without, Anna says. And remember the power of a series (smaller pieces framed the same way and hung on a wall together). Consider balancing a large piece of artwork on one wall with a series on an opposite or adjoining wall.
- Paint color: She likes Benjamin Moore Black (2132-10) for shutters and doors. Other favorites include Benjamin Moore’s Mediterranean Teal, and Sea Salt and Comfort Gray from Sherwin Williams. For whites and neutrals, Anna likes White Dove, Dove Wing, and Mascarpone from Benjamin Moore.
