Welcome to the February issue of Stroll Historic Brookhaven! This month, we celebrate love – romantic, family, friends, and benevolent.

Our cover family, the Kowals, loves being home with family and entertaining friends. They also are passionate about helping others. Read about Meredith’s involvement in the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS’s) Light the Night and the family’s other philanthropic endeavors, Meredith and Chris’s professions, kids’ activities, and Valentine’s tradition.

We chose LLS as this month’s non-profit focus. Almost 10 percent of new cancers diagnosed in 2024 were one of the blood cancers assisted by LLS’s efforts. Forty percent of children’s cancer diagnoses are leukemia. Learn about the many ways you can help.

Jill and Joe Termini love to run and walk, so when choosing pets they knew they wanted dogs who could join them on their daily treks. Kingsley and Brinkley have done just that, including trotting alongside for long distances as Jill and Joe train for marathons.

Nancy Jiang brings us a recipe for Eight Treasures Tea, a delightful combination of tea, berries and other fruits, nuts, and flowers that she enjoyed on her Silk Road journey. Now she is sharing it with friends here.

In Landmarks with Lisa, we wrote about Little Nancy Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetary, which houses the graves of many of Historic Brookhaven’s first landowners and their families. A short drive north on Peachtree Road, it makes for a peaceful, historic fieldtrip.

Stroll would like to congratulate Katie Fair and Gracie Urban. Both recently earned their Eagle Scout rank. They are high-school seniors and members of Scout Troop 372 at St. James United Methodist Church.

This month we welcome back photographer Lahcen Boufedji. Lahcen photographed Stroll’s covers and events for the magazine’s first two years. If you are looking for a photographer, he is excellent and available for private sessions, weddings, and other events. You can reach him at info@lahcenboufedji.com.

This issue is full of so many items you won’t want to miss – upcoming events, news on the neighborhood book club, and more. Read on!

As for me this Valentine’s Day, I plan to spend it with my husband and good friends on a tropical island. I used to make a special breakfast for the whole family and write poems or stories for each person, but now I am savoring good health and empty-nesterhood.

Tell me about your Valentine’s Day adventures – as well as any upcoming events, charitable endeavors, pets, or trips. Shoot me an email at lgwargo@aol.com. Sending you all good wishes for love, friendship, health, and fulfillment this Valentine’s season.

Happy reading!

Best,
Lisa Wargo
