Fall is upon us ... we are welcoming cooler temperatures, vibrant colors, and cozy sweaters! If sweltering heat has proven a challenge for a consistent walking routine, now is the time to put a walking practice into place. Having a solid plan before next summer rolls around (and the heat index starts climbing), will increase your likelihood of staying on the walking trails.
Consider the amount of time you are seated, particularly in Atlanta. Since we live in a driving city ... Atlantans spend hours sitting in cars. When you add computers, phones, and video games in the mix, most days indoors are sedentary.
At Physical Culture, we believe physical activity to be one of the first requisites of joy. Being physically fit does not have to hurt. Exercise doesn’t have to be extreme to keep you fit. Walking is truly the perfect exercise for most people and we encourage our clients to walk as much as possible.
If the temperature has been a prohibiting factor, fall is a perfect time to enjoy the weather and start a walking routine. Here are a few tips to help you along the way:
1. Find a Buddy – Having a walking buddy can increase your consistency and your success.
2. Make a schedule – Schedule walks as an ongoing placeholder in your calendar. This will up your chances of getting into a routine, change your positive outlook, and leave you feeling empowered!
3. Make a SMALL goal – Be realistic! Commit to a practice that you are actually able to achieve. Set smaller goals than you think you can manage ... this will make success more achievable. Then when you exceed your own expectations, enjoy patting yourself on the back.
Happy Fall, Y’all!
