Lucy

Lucy is a 5-year-old Great Dane who lives with the Zimmer family in Honeygo Village.
The Zimmers met her at the SPCA when she was 8 months old. She had a previous family who had purchased her from a breeder but surrendered her because they underestimated just how large a Great Dane really gets. Her original name was Lexus, and the Zimmers wanted to keep a similar name. It turns out that Lucy is very silly, and she reminded them a little of Lucille Ball from "I Love Lucy."
The Zimmer family also has a pitty named Hazel. Lucy sometimes believes that they are the same size, so if Lucy gets the "zoomies," you need to stay out of the way!
For as big as she is, Lucy is surprisingly timid. When the family sweeps the floor, she will always run to a different floor to hide. She startles herself almost daily when she hits her tail on anything. When anyone rings the doorbell, Lucy will bark loudly, then run upstairs to hide.
Lucy is generally super chill. She goes with the flow and likes to explore new places. She has been to Deep Creek several times, and did a road trip with her family down to Atlanta. Lucy is very social both with people and other pups.
When Lucy first joined the Zimmer family, she seemed slow to learn new tricks, but soon her family realized that she is actually quite smart and cunning. For example, Lucy and Hazel know that the rule is that they need to come inside if they bark, because the family does not want to disturb their neighbors. One night, Max and Maddie were enjoying butter chicken on the deck. Lucy barked once and was sent inside, where there was more chicken on the stove. Lucy is very good at counter surfing, so when they got back inside, they found her covered in butter chicken!
If Hazel is playing with a toy Lucy wants, she will pull out another toy and start playing with it so Haze will go after that toy, and she gets the one she wants. Lucy will bark just once, if Hazel is sleeping where she wants to sleep, so that Hazel will get up and see what is going on, and Lucy jumps in the spot and gets comfortable.
Lucy has also trained her family well. She won't sit on anything that does not have a blanket for her. And she knows exactly how to give the saddest possible face until you give her some peanut butter.
Mike sometimes says, “everyone needs a Great Dane,” and that is the truth for the Zimmer family. Lucy is very independent, and a gentle giant. Lucy has a calming affect on Hazel. She can cheer anyone up if they are having a bad day.
