A Symphony of Life
Music, Travel, and Community with the Walden Family

Since moving to Hunting Creek neighborhood in 2019, the Walden family has made their mark as a vibrant, music-loving, adventure-seeking crew. Elizabeth (55), a Louisville native and Kentucky Country Day School alum, is the daughter of Winfrey and Joyce Blackburn. Her father was a well-known lawyer with Blackburn, Domene & Burchett, and her mother was a pharmacist. Joe (59), is from Algona, Iowa, where his mother, Janet, served as a Deputy Sheriff and later became a college professor, while his father, Glen, was a baseball player for the Cubs.
Joe and Elizabeth met in Kansas City, Missouri, where Elizabeth was finishing her master’s degree, and Joe was the drummer in a popular local band called Motherlode. A chance meeting led to hours of conversation and set the foundation for a marriage now 23 years strong. “We were intrigued by each other and felt comfortable immediately,” Elizabeth recalls. “We laughed together that night—and we still laugh together today.”
The Waldens have two kids, Piper (18) and Luke (16), who are growing up with music, sports, and academic achievements. Piper, a senior at Louisville Collegiate School, has played violin since age three and is a four-time All-State violinist. Piper balances her music with sports, having played basketball, lacrosse, and track, and she also spent years dancing and performing hip-hop. She’s heading to the College of Charleston this fall.
Luke, a sophomore at Collegiate, is a tennis enthusiast who has played for a decade. He also enjoys basketball, track, and drama, earning an award for his performance. His interest in technology and esports keeps him plugged into the digital world.
The Waldens share their home with two energetic pups, Beau and Tootsie. Beau, a two-year-old Heeler mix, is sweet and obedient, while Tootsie, a seven-month-old Catahoula mix, brings spunky energy to the house. Rounding out the household is Ramsi, a four-year-old Bearded Dragon who has a particular fondness for blueberries.
Elizabeth is the Senior Director of Brand, Marketing & Communications at the Council for Affordable Quality Healthcare (CAQH), a data company in the healthcare space. She’s also a Licensed Professional Counselor with over 25 years of experience, currently seeing clients virtually through BetterHelp.
Joe, a Master Club Fitter at Golf Galaxy for the past decade, combines his passion for golf with his musical talent. He was formerly an Assistant Golf Pro in California and spent three years touring the country as a drummer with The Black Mollys, a band signed to Vital Records.
A Love for Music, Travel, and Community
Music is a family affair in the Walden household. Whether time at Christmas around the piano, Piper on the violin, or Joe on the drums, their home’s music room—complete with a baby grand piano, drum kit, guitars, and more—resonates with creativity.
When they’re not making music, the Waldens are making memories on trips to Miami, Fort Myers, Sanibel, or Kiawah Island—anywhere with a beach. From parasailing to jet skiing, water adventures are their favorite. One particularly thrilling experience was white-water rafting down the La Poudre River in Colorado, where their raft was one of only two (of eight) that didn’t flip on the treacherous level 4 and 5 rapids.
The Waldens love enjoying homemade garlic beef enchiladas as well as the occasional fettuccine alfredo. For a night out, Steak & Bourbon is their favorite restaurant. For entertainment, Shark Tank, crime shows, and movies like The Martian and Interstellar are household favorites. And when it comes to sports, the Waldens cheer on UofL, UVA, the Vikings, and the Avalanche.
Life in Hunting Creek
After 12 years in St. Matthews, the Waldens found their perfect fit in Hunting Creek—a spacious home, a big yard, and a golf course to satisfy Joe’s passion. They’ve embraced neighborhood traditions like the Fourth of July parade and enjoy frequent visits to Harrods Creek Park with Beau and Tootsie.
The family is active at the Hunting Creek Country Club, participating in golf, tennis, swimming, and social events like Friday Night Couple’s Golf, and the lively summer Bands & Buffets.
