Cicada Wilkinson Shines at KMAC Couture
Savannah walks her design down the 2023 show's runway
The Hunting Creek neighborhood of Prospect, Kentucky just outside of Louisville was represented in the KMAC Contemporary Art Museum's Couture 2023 by Gabriella Savannah Wilkinson (aka Cicada Wilkinson). She now is an artist and actor living in Chicago, Illinois. She studied at School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
KMAC Couture is a wearable live art runway show presented by KMAC Contemporary Art Museum. It is the signature fundraiser for KMAC that provides funding for the Museum's educational programs and exhibitions. This event offers a unique way to experience art and fashion. KMAC Couture features and supports emerging and established artists, customers, designers, and milliners through the extraordinary presentation of original couture pieces of wearable art and conceptual fashion designs.
For KMAC Couture's eleventh year, artists were asked to find inspiration within the pages of a treasured book or piece of literature to celebrate this year's theme, KMAC Couture: One for the Books! Featured here in this article is a photo of Cicada herself walking the runway in her 2023 design.
When Cicada was asked about her design process she said, "I like to try new things. I like to make things without a rigid plan to see how it develops and then fine tune it. Each attempt doesn't always turn out how I hope, but I always find something I like. I take what I learned and liked from one attempt to the next until I reach my end goal."
We would also like to recognize Hunting Creek resident, Lee Middendorf, for serving on KMAC's Board of Directors. Thank you, Lee, for being a part of the team that helps young artist's like Cicada shine!
