Mia has always been a high achiever, balancing her role as a student, Dunkin’ employee, and a key member of Hurricane High’s celebrated show choirs, Red Hot and Heat Wave. “Show choir combines my two greatest passions: singing and dancing,” Mia expressed to Stroll Hurricane. Her journey into this dynamic art form began in her freshman year when she and her best friend excitedly discovered they had both made it into the choirs.
Mia’s love for dance is a cornerstone of her identity. She previously danced with the Hurricane High dance team and at Dancing Unlimited, experiences that sharpened her skills and prepared her for her current role as dance captain of both Red Hot and Heat Wave. “Dance has been my entire life,” she shared. “It’s what makes me unique in show choir, and I love helping others and showcasing my abilities.” Under Mia’s leadership, her teams have won numerous competitions, a testament to her talent and dedication.
One of Mia’s most cherished memories is winning the championship as part of Heat Wave and celebrating the victory with her teammates. “The best part of show choir is getting to do what I love every day with my best friends,” she said.
Balancing a packed schedule is no easy feat, but Mia has mastered the art of prioritization. “I put first things first,” she explained. “Whether it’s learning a song by morning or finishing my schoolwork, I make sure to stay focused on what needs to be done.”
Mia’s inspiration comes from Haven Steele, a former dance captain she met during her freshman year. “Haven was not only an incredible leader but also someone who managed to juggle school, work, and dance effortlessly,” Mia said. Now one of Heat Wave’s choreographers, Haven continues to guide and support Mia. “She’s been my shoulder to cry on, my teacher, and my biggest cheerleader. She has always told me I'm doing amazing ant she will be there for me when I need her. I will forever be thankful for her.”
After graduation, Mia plans to attend West Virginia University, where she will major in physical therapy and minor in dance, with the goal of becoming an occupational therapist. “I’ve learned so much from show choir, especially what it means to be part of a team and a leader,” she said. “I hope to carry those lessons with me into the next chapter of my life.”
With her unwavering dedication, love for dance, and strong support system, Mia Adams is ready to take on the world—one graceful step at a time.
