Dedication and Discipline: Logan French's Path to Success
Logan French, an 18-year-old senior at Hurricane High School, has made a name for himself both on and off the football field. Living in the Woodridge Estates neighborhood, Logan is part of a supportive family that includes his parents, Scott and Annamarie French, and his younger sister, Avery, a 10th grader at Hurricane High who is also an active member of the school's soccer team and the WVFC soccer club.
Football has been a central part of Logan’s life since his early days in the Midget League B team. "I played many sports as a kid, but football was my first real love," Logan shared with Stroll Hurricane. "The physicality of the sport, the hard work it takes year-round, and the camaraderie with my friends is why I love it." A significant influence in Logan's football journey has been his favorite coach, Austin Lowe, from his midget league days. "He was one of my first coaches and allowed me to find my love for the game by teaching me good techniques to build on in training both in-season and off-season."
Logan's time on the Redskins' football team has been marked by numerous memorable moments and achievements. "Our team has been part of the winningest season in Hurricane High history, finishing third in the state and making the playoffs every year I've played," Logan said with pride.
The bond Logan shares with his teammates is one of his favorite aspects of playing football. "We are a family in football. You spend days, evenings, nights, and early mornings together through the toughest workouts and times. Each time we walk on that field, we play together as friends and teammates and we support each other no matter what, and we are brothers.”
Through football, Logan has learned valuable lessons about discipline, hard work, and teamwork. "Success comes from the hard work you put in during the off-season, the self-discipline during 5 a.m. workouts, and the commitment to learning your position," he explained. “I’ve learned to control what I can control; my attitude and effort. Learning the value of TEAM over the individual is how all teams come together and be the best they can be. Lastly, I’ve learned football is hard, so having fun and staying positive makes each season worth the pain!”
One of Logan's favorite memories is winning the Elite Bowl in Youth Football. "We had such an amazing season, and to see that we did it all together was awesome. Many of us then went on to play middle and high school together," he reminisced.
As Logan prepares to graduate, he has set his sights on attending the UK to become a Physician Assistant (PA) and work in orthopedics. He offers this advice to aspiring football players: "Be prepared mentally to go places you never have before. Understand the value of the off-season, and above all, attitude and effort will take you a long way!"
We will be cheering Logan and his teammates on this season, and wish them the best of luck. Let's cheer for the Redskins to bring home the school's first football state championship.
