Celebrating a Decade of Excellence in Senior Living at The Village at Riverview

Deciding how to care for our beloved elders is one of our most challenging tasks. There may come a time when a senior family member requires nursing care, safety, security, or medical management. It is emotionally difficult to see someone you love unable to care for themselves, and there is only so much you can do before caregiving becomes overwhelming. However, a middle ground can be reached, which is why it makes sense for seniors and caregivers to develop a plan.

“It seems that most people plan for their children’s college funds, retirement, even funerals, but not for aging care,” notes Patricia Perry, Vice President/Owner of The Village at Riverview. Perry, a Registered Professional Nurse and a graduate of St. Mary’s School of Nursing and Marshall University had the vision of bringing a quality assisted living community to the area, and she made it a reality with her business partners. She worked with an architect who understood her vision and contractors from the initial concept to the groundbreaking in October 2013 and the grand opening a year later.

“In celebrating our 10th anniversary of operations, we cannot help but remember all of the residents and families we’ve had the privilege of adding to our community throughout the years,” Perry says proudly.

We are excited to announce an expansion at our location starting in August. This will include Independent Living Bungalows, and two-bedroom, two-bath units with garages. We feel that The Village at Riverview will be a wonderful option for those needing safety and security, access to meals, and an activities program, along with maintenance-free living,” Perry says proudly.

Jeff Gray, the President of The Village at Riverview, adds, “It is our collective goal to provide Barboursville with a loving, caring community for those in need of Senior Living services. We are striving to provide excellence in Senior Living options.”

The Village at Riverview Assisted Living continues to offer all-inclusive pricing that includes three meals a day, phone, cable, housekeeping, and transportation to appointments. Additionally, the community allows residents to bring their pets to live with them if they meet certain criteria. Perry states, “Pets can be such an important aspect of a resident’s life; they are family and a comfort to the owner.”

Each assisted living unit features spacious living, private baths, and an efficiency kitchen. Prepared meals are served in a restaurant-style dining room. Residents have access to a variety of common areas, including a café, salon, and sunroom. The 33,000-square-foot facility also features a spacious and secure outdoor area.

The Village at Riverview offers 24-hour care by a licensed nursing staff trained in senior care and provides specialized care for residents with Alzheimer’s and Dementia.

Perry advises individuals to plan early for the years when they may need nursing care or be unable to continue living at home. “Discuss your wishes with your family and prepare documents to ensure your wishes are followed.” Such documents include medical power of attorney, durable power of attorney, and a living will. She adds, “Touring communities and getting an idea of where you feel comfortable is ideal. Everyone should have a choice, but, unfortunately, unplanned circumstances can take that away.”

Perry salutes the key staff members who assist her with day-to-day operations: Molly Elkins, R.N., Executive Director; Jacob Hutchinson, R.N., Clinical Director; Mary Webber, Executive Assistant; Holly Verches, Dietary manager; and Suzanne Chapman, Activity Director. Recently, Molly Elkins, R.N., was honored by the West Virginia Healthcare Association as the 2024 Outstanding Assisted Living Professional of the Year, and Jacob Hutchinson, R.N., received the 2024 Director of Nursing of the Year award.
