Jim & Becky Head

Creating New Memories

Becky and Jim Head could possibly live on the most photographed corner in I’On. Their home, located across from the beautiful Westlake, is blanketed by three enormous Southern Live Oaks draped in Spanish moss, making the perfect backdrop for every photo op imaginable. Just recently Becky discretely witnessed a couple strolling toward the massive old oak where the anxious suitor suddenly dropped to one knee and proposed marriage. A strategically placed photographer appeared from a hidden spot along with several family and friends. Living in I’On has proven to have many magical moments!

In March of 2021, Becky and Jim were making their way to a much anticipated pandemic getaway to Wild Dunes. They stumbled on The Community Table in I’On for a quick lunch and decided to explore the neighborhood. They immediately could see it was a special place and fell in love with I’On’s charm, accessibility to the beaches, walking trails, and all the Lowcountry has to offer. Having newly married in 2018, the timing was perfect to continue that new chapter. I’On has been a great fit for both of them from the amenities of The I’On Club, the social and educational opportunities of I’On at Home to enjoying date nights and the proximity of downtown. Of course, the best part of living in I’On has been meeting wonderful new friends and neighbors and experiencing all this vibrant community has to offer.

About Becky & Jim

Becky is a true “Carolina Girl” who takes great pride in having grown up on boiled peanuts, grits & collard greens. Jim, however, draws the line on the boiled peanuts. She spent her early childhood in Charlotte, NC before moving farther south to Columbia, SC. She earned her undergraduate degree and Master’s degree from the University of South Carolina. Public service was a big part of her early career having served in the administrations of three South Carolina governors and members of the General Assembly. In 1998, she was appointed Executive Director of the South Carolina Commission on Women by Governor Jim Hodges. She advised the governor and legislators on matters related to the status of women in South Carolina. The Commission played a vital role in influencing legislation to improve the lives of women throughout the state. In addition to serving on numerous boards and commissions, Becky was a graduate of the SC Executive Institute and a 2005 graduate of Leadership South Carolina. Later in her career she would become an enthusiastic professor who taught and mentored thousands of students over her 14 years of teaching in the department of Women’s and Gender Studies at USC. Having taught many student-athletes she remains a devoted Gamecock fan!

Born in Indianapolis, Jim’s family moved to New York while he was in the second grade—growing up on the south shore of Long Island was a blast! As a New Yorker, Jim has really enjoyed meeting so many transplants from the northeast now living in I’On. In fact, on one of their house hunting trips he met someone from his hometown of Massapequa while sitting at the bar at The Shelmore!

Growing up Jim played every sport he encountered but fell in love with lacrosse, eventually playing at West Point and Johns Hopkins University where he earned All-American recognition. He also coached at Dartmouth while earning his MBA at the Tuck School of Business. His career in healthcare consulting started in 1974 at the Washington DC office of Ernst & Young before moving to Columbia, SC in 1979 to accept a position with the SC Hospital Association. At SCHA he worked with hospitals throughout the state in efforts to improve the health of South Carolinians until retiring as Senior Vice President in 2016. Jim also volunteered with the United Way campaign in Columbia and helped two high schools establish boys lacrosse programs.
Becky and Jim both have three children and are blessed with seven grandchildren scattered from New York to Florida. They are particularly excited about the fact that Jim’s oldest son, daughter-in-law and two grandchildren are only a few miles away in West Ashley. Their new home in I’On has been a great place to host family gatherings and still a short distance from Holden Beach, NC where Jim’s side of the family has gathered for a yearly reunion for the past 40 years! Becky and Jim have lived in I’On since 2022 and can’t imagine calling anywhere else home. They look forward to all the memories they’ll make in this special place.
