A Purr-fect Love Story

How Biscuit Fills Our Hearts and Home

Our days with Biscuit are really a love story and we wish to share it with you.

Biscuit now 4 ½ yrs old but forever our baby, came into our lives in April 2023. We had long considered getting a pet. Since Bob favors dogs, I gave him the option of choosing one for us.
At the same time, my curiosity led me to the adoption page of Peggy Adams on the web.
Since the dogs seemed rather large, I quickly moved onto the page with the cats. Never before had we considered one. There were many, but my eyes went straight to the bottom of the page. There it was, a white and orange tabby with a sweet and soulful expression. His name was Biscuit.

I asked my husband to also look at all the dogs and cats, spread out over two pages with a bold promise that he could adopt whatever his preference, a dog or a cat. He looked them over for less than a minute and told me he favored the cat at the bottom of the page. It was Biscuit.
Overjoyed by our instant consensus, we wasted no time getting there for a visit. We found him locked up in a dark tiny cubicle. Once the storekeeper let him out to make our acquaintance, he jumped without hesitation onto Bob’s lap and we have been in love with him ever since. There was no further discussion wanted.

We had no idea how affectionate he would be. He follows us around all day long on his quiet little paws. His countless tricks? He regularly shows up for breakfast when we make our scrambled eggs. Bob tosses the eggshells from across the counter into the kitchen sink while Biscuit watches intently, trying to fetch them with his paw. When he does, he receives a round of applause. He is getting quite good at it.

He also knows how to open doors, so much so that we needed to put round knobs on our bedroom door if we wanted a good night’s sleep and at the garage door for his safety.
Biscuit is as curious as he is affectionate and wants in on all we do. On our desk while working on the computer. Jumping on my bookshelf to check out my literature. On the counter while getting ready for lunch, of course hoping for a crumb here and there. It still requires stringent discipline on our part, not to let him have some morsels here and there. Who can resist that look and the quiet patient posture? The only way to resist is to make his health the priority over giving in.

But the there are other means to let him know how much we love him. A finger full of catnip herb spread on his favorite toy, a red fish with feathers or a blue mouse with an orange tail, will send him skidding along the entire length of the house, skating on our wood floor. He does
somersaults and high jumps, the likes of which we have never seen.

On the days he feels like napping all day, we resort to a tiny red laser beam directed only on the floor. That one changes his mood from sleepyhead to playmate and gets him running around in circles.  If we are out for any reason, he waits patiently by the front door and follows us until we know he missed us.

His meals are simple. Two meals twelve hours apart of weighed and measured 1.2 oz. of dry food. We even upgraded his dish from plastic to green pottery. He also has a fountain for fresh water 24/7. The sound of bubbling water is very relaxing for Biscuit and of course also for us.
He does not like my piano practice and I don’t blame him. Therefore, while I practice, he hangs out with Bob in the TV room, settling nicely into his recliner or mine until I am done.
As you can see, he has turned our entire routine upside down and is master of our household. However, we would not have it any other way.

Perhaps the most endearing quality of Biscuit is, that he is a great teacher of what matters most, even in our relationship. Endless patience, kindness and unconditional love.

Our advice: if you ever feel lonely or sad or unloved, get a cat!
